Another frick'n grandslam....
« on: July 21, 2006, 09:39:45 pm »
I know posts like this should normally be reserved for Gamezone, but thought I'd throw it out here anyways do to it being about more than just tonight's game.

Stros down early again, 4-0 in the bottom of the 2nd on a grandslam by Valentine.  I'm not calling a thing...I don't have the magic that others do around here.  That said there is one thing that you can hope for in games like this...

It's not gonna happen all the time, but this is the type of deficit, especially against this good of a team....that if you can some how come back and win it, well then that's the kind of game you can use as a spring board the rest of the way.  Here's the Stros waking the fuck up and scoring some runs!

Down 7-0 with one out in the 8th and you finally have two men on base.  Flyball to the outfield and you get your backup catcher gunned at the plate trying to tag.   That my friends is Chicago Cubsesque.  99% chance it wouldn't make a difference, but it's just horribly stupid baseball.

It's a dark night for our boys in Queens.

They're playing like they've completely mailed it in.  I think they started to believe their own hype with the patented miracle run and so they have no sense of urgency.  It's not too late in theory, but their fundamentals are completely out of whack and show no signs of immediately improving.

The part about trying to get one run while risking one of your 4 outs left in the ballgame when down 7 runs.   You play station to station and play for a rally.  You don't hope to chip one run away in the 8th and get 6 more in the ninth.

The Reds won with yet another walk-off win.  They are not showing any signs of slowing down.  If the Stros don't find their hearts soon, they may find themselves watching the Reds in the playoffs.  What is this, the 1970s?

you are nuts.so, you would tell him to stay and wait for the next batter to get a hit? oh, sure. those hits have been coming regularly, haven't they?

secondguessing works every time, doesn't it?

In other words it was "horribly stupid baseball" because he got out.

That was an incredible play by Beltran AND Lo Duca.  Just like the incredible plays that Berkman made to gun down Edmonds in the Cardinal series.  Sometimes you have to tip your hat.

This one play didn't make or break this game for the Astros.  They'll snap out of it and start winning (I just hope it's not too late)

Astros down 3-0 after the first....feels like 10-0 to me.  Hopefully this is the game the team battles for a comeback win and starts a streak.

Sometimes I wish the Astros had a universal remote that worked like Adam Sandler's in the movie "Click". Garner could pause a play, run out and move Wilson's bat to the ball or put a little extra "movement" on Taylor's FB.

It's got to be total fustration for the team. They're trying hard but not getting it done.
