Worst Trade ever- that nobody bashes
« on: June 23, 2006, 06:27:19 pm »
Giants send Liriano and Nathan and someone else to the Twinkies for AJ Asswhipe.

What a horrible, horrible, two franchise altering trade that was.  1 year for the gints for AJ, he was hated, run out of town, and the twins get one of the best closers in baseball and a guy that you could see winning a fistfull of cy youngs in the future.  That trade is Hooooooorible, and nobody really talks about it all the time.  Too early, maybe, I guess.

Boof Bonser was the 3rd guy.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

He beat Prior and the Cubs 3-0 today.

This is a pretty bold statement. The only player I'm ready to say I could see winning a fistful of CY's or MVP's is Pujols.

Except this trade gets bashed all of the time.

You're just not reading the right articles or listening to the right radio stations.  I'm sure that if you lived in SF you would hear plenty about this trade.

True- but I think that's my point- it hasn't reached the national level yet- like a smoltz alexander (which wasn't a bad trade imo for detroit) or a bagwell anderson.  Both those trades, at least, the rental player pitched really well.  The Gints got nothing but hassle and trouble out of AJ

I guess it's still early yet.

btw- I wasn't saying Liriano WOULD win a fist full of cy youngs- just that I could see it happening. That guy is filthy.  Didn't know Boof was in the majors till I saw him beat Prior and the Scrubs- the hits just keep on coming.

I don't think it's reached national level of significance because Liriano hasn't yet achieved "superstar" status. He's just a rookie. An incredible rookie, but just a rookie. Once he gets at least a few AS appearances under his belt, then we might start hearing more about that trade. Remember, he could still have an injury that kills his career, and no one would know his name in 10 years, in which case Nathan, a very good but not yet elite closer, becomes the sole "one that got away" from the gints.
phew. for a minute there, I lost myself

and they talked about it twice extensively on TV--once on the day before Liriano's start and all through his game.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.
