Holy Crap Rajah
« on: June 16, 2006, 01:24:25 am »
Is his start tomorrow getting a lot of hype or what?  Saw an interview with RR CFO Jay Miller saying it was the biggest night in Express history.  They are expecting 13K plus to attend.

Does anyone know if this will be live on FSW like the Hooks game last Sunday?  I couldn't get tics and saw they were going for $600 for a seat on the berm on e-bay.

Crazy!

Well, Fox Sports has the Astros playing some exhibition game against a AAA squad.  Can't find anything else, but I imagine the ESPN bandwagon will be swinging off Rajah's belt like one of those mistletoe belt buckles you see every Christmas.

Hell, I'd sell my pair of tickets for a helluva lot less than $600.

the dell will open at 4:30 in anticipation of the dog and poney show
to be careful there had been reports of fradulent tickets selling on ebay
yes the masses are paying homeage to king rajah.
for the money some are spending on this game you could afford gas drive to houston  spend the night in a decent place and still see clemens pitch
add on to post: just found this in the chronicle guess it makes the ticket price worth going The Link

One thing I've been pondering on the Rocket Ego Tour: Haven't all his minor league starts been home games (Lexington, Corpus, RR).  Is this just a coincidence?

Probably trying to save some money. In Lex, he could bunk with his son - maybe throw a sleeping bag on the floor. I'm thinking the Ryans might have been able to put him up in someone's office or something in CC and RR.
It's my estimation that every man ever got a statue made of 'em was one kinda sombitch or another.

Doubtful.  Nolan Ryan asked him long ago to consider doing rehab starts in Corpus and Round Rock (Clemens is a partial owner of both, I believe).

And man, what an ego!  He's selling out minor league parks, rebuilding minor league clubhouses, giving fans across the state a reason to cheer for the Astros, saying and doing all the right things, going out of his way to help 19 year old kids.  The list goes on and on.  I say we lynch him...

Or serendipity? With his 1st ML start at home... on the 22nd... It is ponderous.
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it
Truth isn't easy, the easy part's shit

do you send him Valentines, petey?

he is selling tickets for sure, he is drawing some attention to the Astros, and he is saying a million words at the million press conferences he holds. maybe some of those words are "the right ones," but all i have heard him talk about is himself and his body. what i will remember is: "I don't need to do this. I don't really want to do this, but I'm committed to doing this." wow, thanks a lot Great Man for that fabulous endorsement of your team and your teammates. what i will remember is his letting the media and the unwashed masses think he really was choosing among four teams. Mr. I and Me. Drama Queen. one of the greatest pitchers of all time, but that is where the superlatives end for me.

Roger Clemens has a keen sense for the win/win side of business in baseball.  He's going to play if up (no pun intended) because there is money to be made.  Not many ballplayers have that keen sense.  Dennis Rodman had it in the NBA, Madonna had it in the Music Industry.  Ego drives this in a person, because you market yourself moreso than just your talent.  In Madonna's case, a lack thereof... so maketing yourself is tilted heavily to one side.

So this Rocketpolooza tour is about marketing.  The win/win is the teams get to market and Rocket gets to market.  In the both cases, money is made.  In one case, an ego is stroked.  Bad for anyone involved?  No.  No it isn't.  But it isn't about a baseball rehab and the normal shite that comes with baseball.  It hasn't been that for three years now.  I think some of us just like to hear ourselves call Rocket an egomaniac because, well, he is.

He's also a damn good pitcher too.  Wish we'd only have to deal with the DGP in Rocket though. *sigh*

Outstanding!

9,222 in Lexington.
 9222

9,022 in Corpus Christi 9022

Any bets on the last two numbers in Round Rock being 22?

O my goodness - never noticed that.  That is the most absolutely freakin unbelievably stupidest thing I've ever seen.
