The opossum made it half way across the road.
Game started, bases loaded 1 out, Mike Lamb struck the fuck out and Wilson missed a grand slam by a biscuit.
The next Astro scoring possibility came in the 2nd. With 2 out, Pettitte, yes that Pettitte, hit a fly ball over the head of a drawn in Junyah, it bounced up on the Hill. Pasadena thought he could make it to 3rd, but half way between 2nd and 3rd started a galumphing trot and was dead for the 3rd out at 3rd.
Top the 3rd, the 8 hitter for the Reds, David Ross rips a fly to left that misses a homer 3 feet to the left of the painted line. Taveras makes the leap, he?s high enough, but misses the ball. Then, Bronson Arroyo, ex-band mate of Theo Epstein, singles through a drawn in infield, 1-0.
4th inning, Griffey goes with a high outside fastball, drops it in the Biggio section of the C-Boxes, 2-0.
Bottom the 4th, Lamb scores from 2nd on a Ausmus ricochet off 1B Aurilla, then Bruntlett, the Rover, bounces a double to the left field gap to tie it at 2-2.
The ridiculousness continues in the 5th, Arroyo doubles home battery mate Ross, again, 3-2
Wheels fly completely into the ditch in the 6th. With one out, Griffey bounces a single off Ensberg. Here we go. With 2 freaking outs, Dunn doubles, Kearn is IBB and Encarnacion doubles home 2, then another IBB to Ross and again Arroyo singles to left, one run scores, Wilson bobbles the pickup and another run scores 7 to 2. 4 RBI in the game for Arroyo.
Bottom the 6th, Lamb singles, Wilson doubles, runners 2nd, 3rd, one out. Ausmus guesses wrong on a 3-2 pitch, fastball right down the middle, he was looking for something off speed and/or away, Ks. The Red Rover Ks swinging on a fastball up and away.
The boys continue to try a comeback in the 7th. With Springer and TMiller holding the Reds down, Everett, in on the double switch whacks the first pitch from Hammond up the middle. With one out, Everett on 2nd, Biggio grounds to Encarnacion who throws the ball into the dugout, Everett scores, 7-3.
As Berkman is taking a strike for a 2-1 count, the broadcast shows a closeup of somebody's cell phone with a picture of a bedroom. I don't know why. Then Berkman bounces one of Hammond's 60 mph offerings right in front of the plate. Lamb follows with a foul out to the catcher.
They keep trying in the 9th, Coffey plunks Everett on his first pitch. Taveras lashes a single to right. Runners 1st and 3rd, no outs. Biggio fouls to the skinny foul area in right, Kearns makes the sliding play, sacrificing a run for an out. 7-4. With Berkman at the bat, Taveras takes off on the 2nd pitch, shortstop Lopez goes to cover, and Berkman shoots a single through the vacated area. Ensberg then singles home Taveras, 7-5. With runners 1st and 2nd 1 out, Lamb clocks a fly ball to deep left, Ryan Freel, in for Griffey, tracks it, leaps, and makes the play that Taveras missed in the 3rd. Wilson grounds out to end the game.
Before the game the Astros honored 50 vets disabled in Iraq. If you?re still confused about the definition of ?we? that should clear things up.
