Out of "Wild Pitches on the MLB website:
The Link

The thing that makes me the happiest...
...I really enjoy playing baseball, but I also enjoy when you don't have the pressure of performance hanging over your head. The offseason is fun for me because it's a lot more relaxing; a lot less stressful...

Those that think Berkman is an airhead and does not take the game seriously because of his relaxed demeanor appear not to have an accurate take on the man.  I've been in a competitive environment before and there is nothing more maddening than being teamed with someone that does not care, even if they are good.  Plus, those that don't care don't usually stress out about their performance.

 When I'm done with baseball...
I plan on being a dad and maybe a high school coach somewhere.

That's good stuff right there.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

...Finding a lost bag of sunflower seeds hidden in the folds of my uni...

When I'm done with baseball...
...I plan to be a 1st base coach so that I still get to chat with everybody and pat some rumps...
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.
