OK, I'm climbing off the ledge...

Wandy and Buchholz are pitching well so far, but this doesn't excuse Purp from not getting a veteran backup option in the offseason.
None of these young pitchers are a proven commodity, and rookies tend to go downhill a few months in once the league starts to figure them out. See "Robertson, Jeriome". One of these guys may turn out to be good, or even great, but not all three/four of them at the same time while trying to win a division.
There's also no guarantee that Backe is going to come back and pitch this season. The GM is going to have to face this eventually, and do his job. Plugging in inexperienced pitchers is only a stopgap. What happens if Pettitte or Oswalt get hurt?!? I'm not really in favor of throwing bags of cash at Team Bastard for a half-season of Clemens' "no run support" whining, either.
I'm not totally blaming the youngsters, the pitching staff isn't getting it done as a whole. It's not like the Rockies and Dodgers are the 1927 Yankees.
Still, the bump in the road this season is a whole lot better than last year at this time! (so far.)
A win tonight will make me feel a lot better.
