Props to the Brewers

Pic and relay from Jenkins to Weeks to Hall at 3rd to nab Biggio stretching his dub to 3 in the 8th was a thing of beauty.  Good, solid baseball right there.

Did Biggio ignore a stop sign on that play?

According to Waldo, yes.  I didn't see it though.

I'd be surprised if there was a stop sign there.  1 out, Willy coming up, tie game... that's the spot to go for 3rd.  You make the D make the play, and they did.

However, I do fault Bidge for looking over his shoulder on the way to 3rd.

Amen.  That play was perfect and it had to be to get him.  If Weeks' throw is a foot either side of the bag Biggio is safe.  Good idea to test 'em, great execution.

The TV guys said he ran through the stop sign. Oh well. It was typical Biggio hustle, cut down by two laser throws from Jenkins and Weeks.

Typical Biggio would have dogged the triple into a stand-up double for HoF purposes, or so some have said.

I thought Biggio got credit for a double.

Of course he did, #11 on the season and #615 career. Next up at the 9th spot in history is Hammering Hank at 624.

Their fans need to catch up.  12,258 last night.  Same issue in Cinci.  In spite of the team thinking it's October, only 20,900 showed up to watch em play the Cardinals.

I was at the game last night and there was nowhere near 12,000. Alot of that number had to be season tickets and there were only groups in like 3 of the luxury boxes. We sat in the second row, directly next to the dugout without any usher hassling.

probably tickets sold.

Were you wearing a rainbow gut jersey.  The cameras showed a guy in a rainbow gut jersey.

Nope. I don't have enough of a gut to support a whole rainbow. There were a bunch of astros fans though. A much higher percentage than I've ever seen on the road.

He did, but had he been safe at third he would have gotten credit for a triple (I know you know this).  I was alluding to a legendary TZ spat over whether or not Biggio refused to leg out triples merely so he could set doubles records.

I saw that at the time and had a bad feeling ... as close as the play was, I wonder if that was the difference?  I have no idea how many small fractions of a second that kind of behavior might cost.

possibly he was looking to somehow get in the path of the ball, but since it was thrown high, no chance.

It was a terrible decision on Biggio's part, I knew he was meat as soon as he rounded 2nd. The game was tied at that point and if he would have stayed at 2nd, it would have given Berkman a chance to knock him in as long as WillyT didn't hit into a linedrive double play. Really terrible decision on Bidge's part.

They had Jenks shaded to right center, and if I remember correctly he didnt field it particularly clean and Weeks was in shallow right and had to throw an absolute perfect strike to get him.  And Bidge still damn near made it.

Yet you knew he was meat.

I was a little surprised when Bidge made the turn and kept going, but all in all, it looked to me like he knew what he was doing, going for the extra base.

There's alot of criticizing because he ended up being thrown out, but how much bitching would there be if he had ended up on third with less than two outs?

Berkman is being flogged for his lack of agression, Bidge is being flogged FOR his aggression.  If you want aggressive baserunning, which I think many agree is the better way to go, you take the bad with the good.

It took a beautiful relay throw to get him by a hair.  I don't see how it can be looked at as a "really terrible decision".  It may have been the wrong decision (because he was thrown out), but the risk/reward of the situation made it a good move, IMO.

I disagree because if Lance gets a base knock, or willy for that matter, he will pretty much score from 2nd on anything. It basically gave us at least 2 opportunities to knock him in. Rickie Weeks did a similar thing today, it was a different scenario but he was caught trying to make it to 3rd with 0 outs in the inning and it came back to hurt him.

There was already one out when Bidge was gunned down with a perfect relay. The Hall play today was not similar in any way shape or form, outside the fact that the out occured at third.

There was nothing similar about it, except both ending in outs.  When it's a 1 run game with 1 out, trying to get to 3rd isn't a wrong move.  The odds of getting that run in are much better with the runner on 3rd and 1 out.  Sure, they would have had two shots to get him in if he would have been on 2nd, but getting him on third and pulling the IF in increases the chance of scoring the run (and gives you a better shot at a big inning).  It wasn't like he was out by a mile.  It took a perfect play, and just about any player in that same situation with decent speed would have tried for 3rd.  The players understand how much that extra 90' helps in that situation.  Chances are doing it with 0 outs, and down by 4 will get you a $50 fine in kangaroo court, even if you get in under the tag.

If this and if that, you act as if those if's are foregone conclusions and that Bidge cost the Astros a run for an absolute.  Which is a big steaming pile of horseshit.  What if a gigantic meteor fell out of the sky and smacked Weeks in the fucking forehead while he was making the throw.

WFW as they say, quit the anklebiting.
