Huh?
« on: May 01, 2006, 02:30:18 pm »
By JOSE DE JESUS ORTIZ

..."Out of respect for commissioner Bud Selig, McLane and general manager Tim Purpura did not make any offer to Clemens before today."...
The Link

to be fair he did type "Per Major League Baseball's rules, the Astros were barred from negotiating with Clemens from Dec. 8 until today" earlier in this "item".

JdJO, meet 1000 monkeys with 1000 typewriters.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

I bet Lance Berkman touched every base after yacking yesterday simply out of respect for Bud Selig too.

Come on prvata, this is Bud FREAKING Selig we're talking about.  The man deserves some R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

P.S.  For the record I don't think Ortiz typed the part about the MLB rules.  It was probably an intern who was asked to check the article who slid it in at the last minute.
The test of a true champion is how he reacts to adversity on days when it is bound to come.

Disagree - I don't think fact-checking is S.O.P. at the Chronicle.

Its not, but occasionally they have to hire someone new out of school and teach them how things are done in the real world vs. "school theory".  That takes a few weeks.

It does appear that this one was the work of a committee.

yes, that is legal. they had the first pick. after they signed him, NO could have done the same thing.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.
