Well done indeed.  The Polish Prince.  I'll be playing some Bobby Vinton to pay homage to him.

Agreed.  Also, honourable mentions to Wilson (du-uh) who went 2-5 with a run and 2 ribs including the winner, Willy T for a similar night, Bruntlett for making a number of sweet plays at SS and Munson for filling in very well at catcher.

Just in case anyone forgot, this was extra innings when both the starting SS and catcher were gone long before the regular innings were over.  Golf clap for Gar.

All those and a pat on the back for Dr. Gary and whatever he did to end one of the worst slumps I've ever seen.  Not the longest but one of the most brutal.

Whatever Gary did, I don't want to know.

That was one hell of a sweet play Bruntlett made on the bouncer up the middle that Odalis Perez hit. Great positioning and bigtime clutch play.

I'm guessing that Garner had the infield playing back.  Perez isn't going to beat out any infield grounder (nor some outfield ones).  That was a nice play but The Crimson Chin had all day to make it.

His best play was on Martinez (IIRC) in the 14th.  Chin was playing in because Furcal was on 3rd and only 1 out.  He  collected Martinez' hot shot cleanly, looked Furcal back to the bag and threw the runner out at 1st.  Definitely saved a run.

He was also smooth as silk when putting out Repko (again, IIRC) in the 13th.

This may be splitting hairs, but Ausmus wasn't "long gone before regular innings were over." He was ejected with one out in the bottom of the ninth. That said, I agree with the premise of your post.

Very true.  The game was so frikkin' long that it just seemed like Brad blew up in the early going.

Also worth mentioning that Garner went to his pen after just 4 2/3rds innings.  That was more than 9 innings of 1-run ball pitched by the pen.

Bullpen:

9-2/3 IP
5 H (0 XBH)
1 R (1 ER)
6 BB (3 IBB)
7 SO
0 HR
39 BFP

Other than the walks -- three of which were intentional -- that's the equivalent of a quality start.

All these facts you two insist on throwing out are going to completely blow up the theory that the Astros bullpen sucks right now.  But who am I to fault someone for ruining the delusions of others by pointing out the obvious....

Errr.  Anyone but Perez running he's safe.  Bruntlett backed up on that one and his back foot slipped as he was making the throw.  When we're counting up lucky plays for 2006, that's going to be one of them.
