Just finished a little quiz

a look around the NL boxscores.  

I was shocked to find out that I only recognized one regular for the Marlins- just mind boggling how young/anonymous they were.  

I got like 77 out of 120 regulars correct with position, I knew of 26 more guys, but didn't realize they were playing where they were (roster turnover) and I just flat out had never heard of 17 guys.  Basically, of all the guys I've never heard of in the NL playing a position 35% play for the fish.  

I knew they had some roster turnover but that is flat out mind boggling.

The more I read of them, the more shocking it is.  They've got a rule 5 draft pick as the starting second baseman.  They've got a total payroll of about $15 M.  

And for $15 M, that's a damn good team.  Cabrera and Willis alone are worth that much.  Add in some big time prospects like Willingham and Hermida and that's a good cheap group to build around.  I'm gonna be pulling for them this year.

I'm not gonna be pulling for them. The franchise is a joke. They have bad fan support, the owner is a liquidating cheap-skate, their city doesn't want them. Please God, don't allow them to relocate to San Antonio.

Yep...pretty shameful that Bud Selig allowed Jeff Loria and Davi to wreck not one, but two franchises.  The Expos slaughter is more heinous, since they had a ton of fan support at one time, but this Marlins tank job is sad.  

Selig appears to be indifferent to cheapskate owners that whittle down the payroll and make money off of revenue sharing without regard for attendance.   And of course there's the blatant shopping around of franchises.  That crap would never fly in the NFL.

I agree about there being truth to that stuff in the paper.  JD and Brownie said last night Charlotte pulled out of the hunt for the Marlins.  I think SA wants another pro team pretty badly.  

I'm have from friends and family in SA saying they would go to the games.

I would go to games too.  

I think the biggest obstacle is Fox Sports Southwest.  They have to give the Marlins a more lucrative deal than the have in Florida or chances are it is a no go.

Yeah, the NFL would never allow a team to just pick up and move because another city is offering a better deal.
