Astros Lunch
« on: April 04, 2006, 04:48:02 pm »
Went to the lunch at the Houston Club today. Some quotes, more or less:

Backe:  I think I'll be ready Friday.  I hope.

Garner:  We're trying to decide on our 5th starter between Buchholz, Buchholz, or Buchholz.

Garner:  To questions about Chris Burke, yes (will he play SS), yes (will we see him more in the lineup), and he will be our first righthander off the bench.  I thought that was a particularly brilliant question.

Berkman:  This team has to quit depending on its sluggers to carry it.  We're out there grinding it out, all Oswalt has to do is pitch one day and then spend the next three at home on the couch eating ice cream.  He ought to pitch 8 shutout innings.

Lane:  I'm really glad to be here.

Purpura:  I'm really glad to be here.

McLane:  I'm really glad that you're willing to spend your money, because I lost $15 million last year.

Those last three were made up.  Except maybe for Lane and Purpura.

McLane:  The replica rings aren't as nice as the real ones.

Burke has color photos of Purpura and a family of wildebeests. TP is the one wearing the garter belt.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Well, thank god the wildebeast wasn't wearing the garter belt, otherwise we'd have a scandal on our hands.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.
