I shoudln't go there and read it.

Still, this little tidbit seems quite insightful:

I've got a lot of e-mail on something written by a guy named Bill Simmons on ESPN.com. He bashes Houston.

oops...not that part, this part:

People write stuff like that because they're desperate for someone to read their stuff. They're doing it to push buttons. The guy couldn't be more irrelevant.

He didn't type that with a straight face, did he?
It's my estimation that every man ever got a statue made of 'em was one kinda sombitch or another.

Here's a good one,

from Justice's yammering

"...two men haven't spoken since. According to one of Bagwell's friends, he'll walk away if McLane approaches him today when they'll both be in camp."
The Link

I think he may have mis-overheard someone elses interview, because, in fact,

"Owner Drayton McLane addressed the NL champions before the workout and made a special point to shake hands with Bagwell. McLane said the two talked briefly and that he wanted to meet with Bagwell over the next few days.

"It's like everything in life -- close relationships have different experiences as you go," McLane said. "I've been closer to Jeff than any other player in my history of the Astros. This is a difficult time for him, and that's where friends help friends and that's what I'm here to do."

I guess we can speculate one of two ways:  Either Drayton got hold of a good PR firm that advised him on how to deal with this issue or he has a brain and a touch of respect for Bagwell and recognizes the complexity of the issue.  Me, I'm betting on the PR firm because we all know McLane is a follower of Satan.

Come on Pravata, help keep the speculation train rolling...

57% chance Bagwell spit in his hand before shaking with Mclane.  Furthermore, the over/under on the number of times Bagwell said "fuck you" in their brief conversation, 8.

And so it comes full circle.  Justice's comment makes the "quote of the day" on Simmons' Sports Guy page:   Sports Guy

Justice pretending that he doesn't know who Bill Simmons is?  What a guy.

I just think it's funny that the guy who can barely get a quote from players on the team he gets paid to cover is calling someone else irrelevant.

Footer got this out of him after today's workout

"This was a little bit of a difficult offseason, but things will get better," Bagwell said. "How this all plays out with me and the organization, time will tell. I'm not trying to harbor any bad feelings right now, ..."

"I just need time. Let's just get through this, first. I've been a Houston Astro my whole life. I'm very proud to wear this uniform,...I've got to believe that somehow, some way, things will work out."

He's not. He's completely relevant in that he's the crappy star writer for a crappy newspaper who's inane "reporting" has withered the patience of his lead subject.

He also happens to be quite influential.

He certainly influences my bowels whenever I read him.

Mainly I think dismissing someone as "irrelevant" is silly and pedantic; but even moreso if the rubric by which a writer's "relevance" is measured is readership, which Justice's is no doubt dwarfed by Simmons'.

For anyone attempting to find out information about the Astros, what Justice writes is of little relevance, possibly irrelevant. Maybe even detrimental.  For anyone attempting to find out about Richard Justice, what he writes is very relevant.  Justice writes about himself, if it happens to coincide with reality, it is a happy accident.
