Great news.  Good for him and his career in Houston and nationally.  He will always be my favorite baseball radio announcer, but then again, I'm bias.

Congrats to Gene Elston and all his faithful fans out there.

Anyone, by chance, have an audio link to some of his famous calls?  I'd be interested in hearing some.

The link above has Nolan's 5th No-No, Don Wilson's No-No, and the 7 DP game

It's about time!  I got chills listening to the play by plays they had linked there.  That voice IS baseball to me, just as Scully/Garagiola and Gowdy were game of the week and Allen/Fussell were TWIB.  Every special play I ever made was to the TWIB music, just as the ESPN jingle does for my kids.  I kid you not, when I hear "Gathering Crowds" the closing music for TWIB, I am instantly 8 years old making wall crashing catches again.

Congratulations Gene!

Excellent!!! I'm glad he finally gets this long deserved recognition. I remember listening to the 7 DP game. Dierker's no-hitter, Wilson's 2nd, Forsch's. Gene, and for a while Harry Kalas, were were everything to me as a kid, that Red Barber and Mel Allen were to a New Yorker.
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it
Truth isn't easy, the easy part's shit

I once bought Gene a beer at a bar that his son owned. No big deal, he thanked me and continued his conversation with his son.

I sure would like to buy him another one right now.

About freaking time.
He breezed him, one more time!

Well, technically not a "Hall of Famer", despite what Milo thinks of himself.  I only pick this nit because the HOF itself insists on it.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Best play by play announcer the Astros (or anyone else for that matter) has ever had.  He was so so accurate, I truly never remember him making a mistake, whereas Milo you count the number of mistakes per game. He also was said to keep his own books, keeping score for every game with very detailed notes on every at bat. If memory serves he even notated what the count was on all the at bats. He had an eggtimer that flipped every 3 minutes to remind him to give the score..

Thats its we need to send Milo and eggtimer.!!!

Long overdue and fully deserved..

Now you chuckin in there Gene-o!!!
Remember Jesus Alou being called out of the 1st base coaching box to pinch-hit a double vs. the Reds in '79 I think, to win a crucial game, and he patted Morgan on top of the head (ala Benny Hill w/the little bald guy) and Little Joe got pissed.....yeah,that was great.

You obviously never heard Milo when he was in his prime.  I'm all for Elston winning the award and all, but it IS possible to congratulate Elston without bashing Milo for his misfortune of growing old.

Milo's misfortune is not that he is growing old.

But your point is still valid.
You see pal, that's who I am, and you're nothing. Nice guy, I don't give a shit. Good father, fuck you. Go home and play with your kids. You wanna work here, close. You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you cocksucker? You can't take this, how can you take the abuse you get on a sit?
