For All You Accountants (OT)
« on: January 12, 2006, 12:57:50 am »
that have been cluttering the board lately.

My friend is thinking about getting his Masters in Accountancy and is probably between Trinity in SA and U of H in Houston. Any experience with either (he's at Trinity, so U of H insight especially appreciated).

Thanks guys.

If he's just getting it to meet requirements to sit for the CPA exam, and has an undergrad in accounting already, I'd say just get it at whichever is cheaper. (including COL)

The two schools' reps are comparable, for the Macc. There might be more recruting at UH, as there are definitely more public accounting firms in Houston than SA, though. That said, however, I know a few folks from Trinity who have all had internships (and/or full-time jobs) with the large firms around Houston, so...

If he does lean towards UH, tell him to stick with the central (Cullen Street) campus. The Clear Lake campus is primarily for working commuters, and the Downtown campus is the redheaded stepchild of the local system.

Just my opinion but CPA > Masters in Accouting.
You see pal, that's who I am, and you're nothing. Nice guy, I don't give a shit. Good father, fuck you. Go home and play with your kids. You wanna work here, close. You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you cocksucker? You can't take this, how can you take the abuse you get on a sit?

Watch it - that's where I got my accounting hours for the exam!!

It is, but lots of folks are opting for the Macc in order to hit the 150 hour requirement (as opposed to getting a dual-major bachelor's degree) to take the exam.

MM: UH-D, eh? Well then, you know what I mean! Not denigrating UH-D, just saying recruiters tend to visit the central campus instead. I have friends who went there recently, and were highly frustrated with being overlooked (and, I gather, they couldn't just "show up" at the central campus recruiting events).
