Millwood to the Rangers

Strange deal.  Seems a little cheap at $60mm for 5 years.  Plus the Rangers can nix the 5th year if he doesn't meet IP targets.

Oh, and by "strange", I mean "sane".  Which is why it's strange.

Growing your own pitchers (and the cost of not doing so) has never been more apparent.  Also, being close to Pearland and Memorial are handy.

well at least he is in the al. i was going to say only have to see him during the western shootout for the boot or what ever its called now.. but lol there may be that mythical fantasy of an all texas world series...

Which leads me to the following question:

Does this move, along with the addition of Eaton and Wilkerson give the Rangers enough ammo to at the very least garner serious interest from Clemens?

That remarkably average pitcher led the AL in ERA last year.  I don't think this is "remarkably sane" - the Rangers have to overpay for any pitching - but I'd rather have Millwood for this deal than Burnett for his.

He also posted a remarkably below average 4.85 ERA in 2004.  He can occassionally be brilliant and often be positively mediocre.  He's an average #3 starter at best.

The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

He's got a career 3.76 ERA 114 ERA+ and he's only been below 100 once in his career. That's an above average starer even if it's not an ace.

Those career numbers are skewed by two uncharacteristically low seasons.  Plus, being league average in ERA doesn't make you an above average starter.
