That's alright...

I've been saying all along that I'm cool with the team as is.  Let's start the season, get some questions answered (i.e. Bags - Clemens) and then take it from there.  If we add anything before we start the '06 season, it will be gravy to me.

Amen.  The thought that I am currently pondering is why not leave Berkman in LF, let the OF stabilize, and platoon Lamb with Bagwell, assuming he can play.  Even if he can play, I suspect he won't be the iron-horse he once was so it seems like a good way to take advantage of Lamb.  

This year pitching and OF's seem to be moving at a premium.  Both can be explained by the fact that both are in short supply this offseason.  Next off-season is an entirely different situation.  Next off-season is going to be, I suspect, a good year to be buying on the FA market.  Potential FAs are (and my appreciation to Pravata for providing the link):

David Ortiz
Carlos Lee
Raul Ibanez (a player Houston targeted last season, IIRC)
Torii Hunter
Mike Cameron
Aaron Rowand
Jim Edmonds
Aubrey Huff
Sean Casey
and an assortment of other comparable OF/1B types.

Jeff Bagwell.  You forgot Jeff Bagwell.  He'll be a free agent next year and will command big $$ after his '06 .303/45/135 campaign.

While I admire your optimism... coming off such a campaign, his option would be picked up.

Plus, if he came back and did that after what he's gone through, Drayton would probably give him an ownership interest in the club and they'd rename the ballpark after him.

This is freakin madness.   He was coming off a 2 year 6 million dollar contract, Minnesota.   Not to mention, an injury cut short his season last year and he has yet to start baseball related activities.   So what do you do, you give him a raise?   Brilliant.
