One person I felt "good" for
« on: October 26, 2005, 12:23:48 pm »
Feel free to pelt me with whatever soft items are handy, but I felt good for Geoff Blum. A little of that warm-n-fuzzy was taken off when he started holding up the "four fingers" but still... that is a good story and moment in any WS game. Plus, the hair! LOL. Almost one color, but still distinctive in an "H.I. McDonnough" kind of way.

Despite the loss, I felt good for Lidge and Qualls.  They got a chance to pitch some really good ball with the game on the line.

Lidge had 3 strike outs last night.  Most of the bullpen did their job.  I'm not even that upset with Zeke giving up the long ball.

And Lane for driving in the tying run.

Absolutely. Qualls has been truly a wonder to watch, this ENTIRE postseason.

No one should try to hang last night on Zeke.  Ever.

No no no, I didn't feel good for Blum.  I haven't read any of his post-game comments (I avoid all major media sources post-losses), but I assume he feels pretty fucking smug about sticking it to the team that traded him (and, fairly, is pretty content with a Backe-Blum deal).  That being said, I like the little guy, so it was at least a little easier to cope with than pujols walking to first

Absolutely not. I felt bad for him but he is not to blame for this mess.  The game should have ended way before Zeke had the chance to pitch.

Astacio was the only one out of the bullpen who did have an ER.  The HR was a good pitch, a better hit.  Back-to-back walks sucked.  Bottom of the 14th could have been a lot more interesting if that were the tying run on 3rd after Uribe's error.
"Ground ball right side, they're not gonna be able to turn two OR ARE THEY, THROW, IS IN TIME!!! WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE TURN BY BRUNTLETT AND EVERETT, AND THEY CUT DOWN MABRY TO END THE GAME, AND THE ASTROS LEAD THIS NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES THREE GAMES TO ONE!!!!!"

When Blum stepped in, alls I could think of was:

"Parkman steps into the box and does his little shimmy.  It makes the women here in Cleveland puke."
How can you ask me a question like that?  Do you ask The Beatles that??

The White Sox are a good team, and barring a miracle come back they deserve to be Champions.Even though I've tried, I can't make myself hate them. (I do hate their fans)

They just continue to be ONE, one, ONE, clutch hit or ONE clutch pitch better than the Astros.

But if any team can duplicate what the R SOX did against
the Yanks, this team can.

I switched to hating them just as soon as all those 4's started flashing in the dugout. Asswipes.

I had the exact same thought. All credit (so far) goes to the CWS, but as others have said this series could easily be 2-1 or even 3-0 in the Astros' favor. The realization that they are only a fraction better than us gives me hope that we can still turn this thing around. All we can do now is win tonight and take care of everything else later. Go 'stros.

Ditto.  I think it's fitting that Backe is pitching right after Blum wins the game for Chicago.  Go 'Stros!
It's the freakin' World Series

A thread elsewhere says the four fingers refers to the bench players on the Sox, who've been maligned by their local press and are relegated to few ABs at BP. That's the explanation, anyway.

We don't deserve to win if we keep runners stranded in scoring position. It's as though Clemens was on the mound 24/7 in April. Where are our bats???

It's true.  BP rotations are set and usually the rotations go by starters, to first line utility to scrubs (which is what some reporter once called Blum and his group 4 rotation).  They were understandably excited that a "scrub" player came up with the big hit in an emotionally changed and intense game.

Most of the one's holding up the four fingers were his BP rotation group too.

It's true. The story came out on ESPN.com a few days ago. None of the guys had really seen action since game one of the ALDS, as Ozzie has been playing his regulars, well, regularly. The Group 4 is Willie Harris, Pablo Ozuna, Chris Widger, and Blum.

Ash apparently feels good for Blum too.  He just concluded his pre-game interview with him by saying, "Let's go get 'em in game 4."
