World Series Rotation
« on: October 20, 2005, 03:13:08 pm »
Everyone seems to believe Clemens will start Game 1.  That makes sense considering it's his turn in the rotation.  I'm wondering, however, if Gar might push him back to Game 2.  If he does that Clemens would get an extra day off before his Game 6 start, if necessary.  If he pitches Games 1 and 5, he'll pitch on the normal four day's rest.

(Still in shock that I'm posting about our World Series rotation)

So you're thinking

Pettitte
Clemens
Fourandoswalt
Backe
Pettitte
Clemens
Roy?

That's what I'm hoping for as well.  Roger could definitely use the extra rest.  And of course a possible game 7 with Roy O on the hill?  I like that.

I like it.  Andy on regular rest.  An extra day of rest for the old man, and Roy twice when you need him most.  The only issue with that rotation is that the Rocket won't pitch at home.

Yeah, he'll only pitch on the road, where he was brilliant this year.

Well, Roy pitches Game 3 and Game 7 regardless.

Trust me, I had pointed out "Roy in Game 7" SECONDS after the win last night.

I guess what we're really asking is this:

Whoever pitches Game 1, pitches Game 5.  So, would we rather Clemens pitch 1 game on the road and 1 at home or Pettitte pitch 1 road/1 home?  Because the Game 2 pitcher is throwing 2 road games.

Well at least Roger was at his best on the road.  Although I suppose it would suck for him not to pitch at home for sentimental reasons.

Oh... believe me.  I realized that when I posted.  I was just thinking of the electricity of a Rocket start at home in the WS.

The home/road matter is irrelevant to me.  With the exception of Backe, I don't care where they pitch.  The most important concern is a rested/healthy Clemens. Clemens in Game 2 just seems so obvious. Of course, this is assuming Pettitte doesn't need extra rest for his knee.

I don't think that the home or road component of it matters at all when you are talking about any of the big 3 (definately backe it would be huge, which is why wrapping this sumbitch up in 6 was so important- so he didn't have to go road/road in 2/6).

I think that you just go with whatever floats your boat rest wise.

Honestly, I have no opinion on that matter- would we rather Rocket and Pettite both go with extra rest by going 1,2 or give Pettite no extra rest and rocket 7 or 8 days of rest.  Will it help Rocket to have an extra 3 days or will he get rusty.  I personally think that I'd go AP then Rockett as Clemens seemed at his best in September after he missed the start on 10 days rest and I think he's breaking down, but I don't have a hard and fast opinion one way or another.

I doubt home/road plays into this, nor pressure into this, I think its Scraps decision on rest vs rust with Rocket

Roger will already be on 6 days rest.  I think that is more than adequate, and Andy is nursing a sore left knee as well.  Go: Roger, Andy, Roy, Backe, Roger, Andy, Roy

I wouldn't think Pettitte would need extra rest on the knee. He looked pretty damn good to me Monday.  A week and a half since that mishap should be more than enough time, I would think.

I figured you did.  I'll be at Game 5, and seeing Clemens would be a treat for sure.  But his health is what's most important.

If Roger goes in Gm 1, he gets 4 days rest between Gm 1 and Gm 5.  If he pitches Gm 2, he gets 5 days rest between Gm2 and Gm 6.  Overall, he'll get two extra days rest by holding off his start to Gm 2.  I like the idea of that.

The issue isn't how rested Clemens will be for his first start.  The crux of the question is how rested he'll be for his second.

Fuck it- why not just go Pettitte, Rocket, Roy, Backe then victory parade and not worry about 4 vs 5 days rest for the second time through the rotation.

ESPN has rocket in Game 1.  I don't know if that is blatant speculation or what.  I like Pettitte as Game 1 starter, for a variety of reasons.

Pete..you flying in town for the series?  if so, give me a ring.

Kind of like the electricity of the Rocket starting the All-Star game in Houston?

regardless of rest, wouldn't Rocket/Pettitte/Oswalt be preferable to split the power righties up with the crafty lefty?

maybe a theory in terms of reliever seqence in the same game...not too big of a consideration in regards to a sequence of games, imo

Although everyone hedges their best with the word "Probables".  Considering neither team has announced yet, it's all speculation at this point (though somewhat reasonable).
