Actually, the real reason I posted was to say congrats to all you life-long 'Stros fans. I'm a relative n00b in comparison--my (now) wife moved here in 1997, and I started peripherally following the team early in 1998. Things picked up significantly when I moved here in 1999, and in fact I got to see the last game ever played in the Dome.

But for whatever reason, I have never, ever followed a sports team as closely as I did the Astros this year--even when they were 15-30 and I thought the chances of them going to the World Series was about the same as me being asked to be THE (not "a" pope). No matter what happens from here on out, this was special and I'll always remember it.

You guys (and gals) have suffered a long time. Enjoy every damn moment of this.

Now, I am looking at the bottle of champagne I have in front of me and thinking about the lecture I am supposed to give at 8am tomorrow. Decision time...

Aw hell, who am I kidding.

That's actually sort of weird because I drank a High Life tonight during the post-game show. There was just one in the fridge, so down it went.

Do you believe that each of us has only one true (baseball) love? I don't *think* getting on board 7 years ahead of time is considered jumping on the bandwagon, but like you I'm sort of a nonconformist so who knows.

i am not suggesting that you are a fronrunner or nuthing. I just think its hard to really love more than one team. gotta admit, though, if i live here a few more years I might stop wanting to slap the silly smile off chief wahoo and start to give a shit about an AL team. must be the lady on the moon talking. shit. tommie d arrested and the astros win the pennant on the same day. this drunk ass yellow dog democrat is grinning.
