"Edmonds took a 3-1 pitch up and in for four ball four . . . but amazingly umpire Phil Cuzzi called it a strike, then threw Edmonds of the game.

Apparently Cuzzi decided he was the show Sunday in Houston."

You think the 3rdnials fans are upset... I used to share an office with the biggest sCrubs fan ever... I am willing to bet if I called him right now, he is literally unable to talk.  He is strange....the only team he hates worse than the 3rdnials are the Stros...

Anyone else wonder if the play would have been turned if Biggio (and I am a HUGE Biggio fan) would have still been in the game?

Unlikely, although his throw was the easier one.  Gar pushed all the right buttons today.  La Russa pushed the one marked self-destruct.

I'm a huge Biggio fan as well but there's no wondering about it.  Mabry would have been safe with noodle arm in there.

I think it would be a tough thing to ask, and say what you want about Willy (like he should have caught Pooholes' liner in the 9th) but he worked out on that hill a lot this year.

Exactly!  I have questioned some of Phil's decisions this year but I have to admit...he has been right WAY MORE than he has been wrong...IMO

the umpire was consistent as far as i am concerned. the strike zone was huge for both teams.

we'd better score a bunch tomorrow. the Cards will get all the calls.

Berkman probably doesn't catch the almost-gapper that Burke pouched (although I imagine the defensive shift would've been different if Berkman was still in left).

Eh, I thought Willy made the mature play by not risking extra bases on Pujols' liner. Keep the play in front of you, if he commited on a risky play, and not catch it, I'd still be at MMPUS.

I was saying the same thing.  He took kind of a round about route to the ball, but the worst thing he could do was let it get by him.  The ball took kind of a funny carom, but keeping Pujols at 1B was key.

He had no shot at home. Kudos to Gar for playing DP depth. Standard when you're still up a run, but it wouldn't have surpised me in the least if LaGenius, in that situation, played his infielders in. Great job all around in decision making. Timely defensive substitutions, and the pitchers made the perfect pitch in the all the key situations. Awesome game.

YOu might be right.  And that ball would've been fielded by a drawn in Bruntlett and he most likely would've got an out at home.  But then the inning would not be over and there would still be a RISP.

A great game, but I'm definitely ready for Lidge to go back to "lights out" form and farther from "gas can" form.  I can't stand too much drama like that.  I almost lost it when my 8 year old daughter walked in front of the television in the ninth.  Wow, what a game.  Wow, what a team.

Garner said in the postgame interview that he wanted Bruntlett to go home when the ball was initially hit, and he didn't think they had a shot at a DP, but once Everett made a great turn at 2nd, he knew they had it.

He had no shot at home. Kudos to Gar for playing DP depth. Standard when you're still up a run, but it wouldn't have surpised me in the least if LaGenius, in that situation, played his infielders in. Great job all around in decision making. Timely defensive substitutions, and the pitchers made the perfect pitch in the all the key situations. Awesome game.

Not that his regular season doesn't merit it, but his moves in the post-season have had the Midas touch, which leads me to ask a stupid question:  does post-season managing have any effect for voting for MOY?  I know all player voting is regular season only, just wondering if the same is true for managers.  I would assume so (with regards to Benny Hill.)

Bruntlett said that he was thinking about two before the play even began, which is key.  When a player is in the game he must think about all the scenarios before the ball is in play, so there is no hesitation once the ball gets to you.  Kudos to Bruntlett.  I am so amazed that the Stros have so many young guys coming up huge in serious pressure situations.

Oh, and speaking of huge, I enjoyed Lidge's on-the-field interview.
