Goodbye all you Eastern teams.... C'Ya! Ha!
« on: October 11, 2005, 12:58:04 am »
No Phillies (regular season)
No Red Sox (first to go).
No Braves (yeah, it was classic).
No Yankees.

SWEET!

Fox just saw all those Northeastern televisions turning off for the next two and a half weeks.  Yeah, it's three Central teams (one in the AL, two in the NL) and one West team.

God Bless America!

I begged the BBGs for it and it happened.  It was all I asked for and I got it.

Anyone tells me to be more "careful" with the BBGs again, gets a Buick in the groin.

I'm hedging my bet this year and buying Co-ards WS tix.  Either it'll work and we'll win the CS or it won't and I'll be fucking rich.

Spent all evening working at a customer's site and got back to the hotel room to the joyful news that the Angles won!   This has to be one of the sweetest baseball seasons ever, no doubt about it!

I'm confused.  Do they still play out the rest of the season, or just give the championship to the team closest to the midpoint between Boston and NYC, or what?

I was hoping for the Yankee/Red Sox to get the playoff boot. I just wonder what ESPN is going to report now?  The only 2 plausible champions are heading home to plan their vacations!!!  This has to top ESPN's previous greatest dissappointment which is the impossibility of a Yankees-Red Sox World Series.

No surprise there.  They'll focus on Clements.  Of course, they'll report it as Clements, the former Yankee.  Perhaps the media, with nothing else to do, will focus so much on him that suddenly, during the NLCS, it is rumored that Clements is asking to be traded to the White Sox.  Or, maybe they'll do an expose on the amount of bran a 43 year old pitcher needs.  Possibilities abound!

Juli,
welcome to the site.  i think you meant "Clemens," not "Clements."  Clements will forever carry the mark of Cane due to his Cub petigree.  Clemens is that big train that rolled over the Braves.

You couldn't possibly be talking about William P. "Bill" Clements, the late governor of Texas, could you?

No worries.  I was disappointed, though.  I thought for sure someone had the answer to the bran question.  Guess I'll have to wait for Fox to answer that one for me after all.

That's "Clement".  No 's'.

In addition to the Cub pedigree, he carries the stigma of that horrid Abe Lincoln-looking thing growing on and under his face from a few years back.

Which reminds me, has Marfan's disease been eradicated?  Or is it still around?  I figure someone afflicted with it -- extra long arms and fingers -- would make a hell of a pitching prospect (in addition to President, and maybe lead guitarist.)

Note to self:  Check into this.

Along those lines, do we have any former Cubs?  There's some crazy stat that no team has won the WS in decades if they've had a former Cub on the roster.  The Braves had Farnsworth front and centre for their Cubesque implosion.  Do the Astros have one?  The 3rds?

Viz - Cub in early 90s

Countered by Grudzielanek, Cub in 2003/2004.

There may be others.  I'm too lazy to look 'em up.

Don't worry.  Viz won a WS with the Yankees in 2000 after being a Cub.  And Mark Grace won one with the DBacks in 2001.  The cursed Red Sox won last year with former Cub Mark Bellhorn.  This is a non curse.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Anyway, Viz is one of the most un Cub-like guys I can think of.  And I still remember the clutch pinch hit for NYY vs. the steM in the 2000 Fall Classic.  That should erase any vestiges of the Wrigleyville Stain.

The 3rds have Grudz and Julian "Psycho" Taveras.  I actually like Grudz -- the sort of player he is -- but Taveras should be a scourge to anyone seeking favor with the BBGs.

Anyway, as a pubic, er, public service...

CWS
C Pierzynski -- Twins, Giants
1B Konerko -- Dojers, Dickities
2B Iguchi -- Toyo Carp, something like that
3B Crede -- Homegrown*
SS Uribe -- Rox
LF Podsednik -- Mariners, Brewskis
CF Rowand -- Homegrown*
RF Dye -- Braves, Royals, A's (WS heroics for the Bravos in '96 I think, when he was the youngest guy to hit a GW HR in the WS, maybe)
DH Everett -- Mariners, steM, 'Stros, Red Sox, Rangers, Montreal Expos of Washington (BTW, C4 quietly had a nice little comeback year at age 34... Of all the late '90's exes, I still miss him the most... )

Bench - Ozuna (FLA, COL); Timo (steM... a WS flop in 2000); Widger (SEA, MON of DC, SEA, Yankmees, Co-ards); Harris (BAL)

SP Buehrle -- Homegrown*
SP Garcia -- Astros farmhand, Mariners
SP Contreras -- Shark-infested Straits of Florida, Yankmees
SP Garland -- Homegrown*
SP El Dookie -- (see Contreras above)

Bullpen - Hermanson (Pods, MON of DC, Co-ards twice, Red Sux, Cream of Wheats); Cotts (Homegrown*); Politte (Co-ards, Fillies, BJs); Marte (SEA, PIT); Jenks (Alcoholics Anonymous, Rader Institute, anger mangement courses)

LAA of ANA
C Molina -- Homegrown*
1B Erstad -- Cornhuskers, Homegrown*
2B Kennedy -- Co-ards (part of the wonderful trade that caused the NL to be graced with Natural Highlights Edmonds)
3B McPherson -- Homegrown*
SS Cabrera -- Expos of DC, Red Sox (.288/.377/.356 in playoffs/WS last year)
LF Anderson -- Homegrown*
CF Finley -- Orioles, Astros, Padres, Snakes (lifetime .262/.353/.331 in post-season, 43 games, 145 ABs)
RF Vladdy -- MON of DC

Bench - Figgins (Homegrown*); Rivera (MON, NYY); Izturis (MON); Molina (Cubs); Quinlan (Homegrown*); Kotchmann (Homegrown*)

SP Colon -- CLE, MON, CWS (1-4, 3.45 in 7 post-season starts)
SP Lackey (great name) -- Homegrown** (via Abilene)
SP Byrd -- steM, The ATL (X 2), Philly, KC
SP Washburn -- Homegrown**
SP Santana -- Sri Chinmoy

Bullpen - K-Rod (Homegrown*); Shields (Homegrown*); Donnelly (Homegrown* - technically); Yan (Orioles, D-Rays, Ranjers, Co-ards, DET); Gregg (Homegrown*): Escobar (BJs)

Also, not pick nits, but is MacPherson on the Angels' post season roster? I thought he hadn't played in months, and Figgins has taken over at 3B. The only reason I even noticed him is that I spent a week at the beginning of the season trying to convince a buddy of mine to draft Dallas MacPherson, Austin Kearns, and Huston Street on his fantasy team. Who knows, there might even be a latino player over in Japan known as Antonio-San.

Yeah Mcpherson is not playing. Figgins plays third unless Finley is looking extremely bad then he goes to center and Quinlan plays third.  I think that's their set up against lefties as well.

Before the Yanquis bought it last night, did anyone else have visions of FOX creaming themselves at the  possibility  of a Andy/Rocket return to the bronx in the WS?  That had to be their number two scenario if they can't have Yanks/Sawks in the ALCS.
