Backe.

I thought that was the rotation order too but didn't Backe pitch an inning last night?  It's still feasible, obviously, given he only pitched 1 inning and is off for 2 days (essentially a hard bullpen session in other words).  It also makes sense given the use of the bullpen the past 2 games.  If Backe doesn't start that would put Wandy in line to start Sunday.  Anyone have a clue what's going on there?

Backe
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Here's my guess: Backe was probably going to pitch a bullpen session yesterday anyway.  Gar probably held him back in case Backe needed to a) start the game b/c the weather conditions weren't agreeable to Clemens' health, or b) pitch long relief in case a rain delay forced Clemens out of the game in, say, the third inning.  When neither of those situations arose, Gar put Back in the game to get his normal work.  That's my guess.

Garner said he was hoping to use Backe last night anyway.  He'll be on the mound in Houston Sunday afternoon.
How can you ask me a question like that?  Do you ask The Beatles that??

Cox is undecided about the Game 4 starter.

Cox said he would use a fourth starter in Game 4, perhaps John Thomson or Horacio Ramirez, "unless we decide to do something different."

What do you want to bet he goes with Hudson in game 4, Smoltz in game 5?

Hudson didn't look great in game 1, and I don't think it would be wise to send him on short rest. However, I am sure the Cox knows better than me.

As far as I'm concerned... he can go suck his own last name.

I nearly broke my TV when the FOX polesmokes called Cox "All that is right with baseball".
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

I am just thankful that Pete Munro is not an option.

They were saying that about Smoltz, I believe. From what I can tell, he seems to be a good enough guy, too... just pitches for the wrong team.

Lyons originally said it about Smoltz, which is fine.  Then he added in Cox, and I went ballistic.

It's hard not to like Smoltz.  Cox is a different matter entirely.  He was wrong EVERY TIME he came out to argue last night.

Lyin's is the problem here ... I'm trying to block out all memories of his inane comments.
