Stat of the Day
« on: October 05, 2005, 02:12:15 pm »
Andruw Jones is hitting .207 (38-184) with runners in scoring position.  The only Astro non-pitchers on the postseason roster with a lower RISP AVG than that are Scott (.190, 4-21) and Chavez (.176, 3-17).  Even Oswalt (.211, 4-19) and Backe (.385, 5-13) are hitting better than Jones with RISP.  Jones's RISP OBP of .335 is pretty pathetic, too.
"Ground ball right side, they're not gonna be able to turn two OR ARE THEY, THROW, IS IN TIME!!! WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE TURN BY BRUNTLETT AND EVERETT, AND THEY CUT DOWN MABRY TO END THE GAME, AND THE ASTROS LEAD THIS NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES THREE GAMES TO ONE!!!!!"

You're at least the third person I've read today posting sit about AJones recent slump.  What in the hell are you people trying to do...will him into a massive hitting streak?

Andr&w's september is uncomfortably reminscent of a certain center fielder's september '04 who went on to dominate the Astros-Braves series last year. Let's stop harping on his September numbers.

It doesn't matter: Andruw will kill us this series.  The trick is to not get beaten by hitters not called Jones.
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

Are these stats interesting?

Quote:

The Astros have never made it to the World Series, but Bruntlett, Berkman, Ensberg, and Lane all played in the College World Series. For that matter, so did Roger Clemens (Texas), Mike Lamb (Cal State-Fullerton) and Chris Burke (Tennessee).... That?s the most of any current team in the majors? seven players who made it to the College World Series.

Until Friday [September 30], the Astros were the only team in baseball that hadn?t lost a game in which they took a lead into the ninth inning. They?d won a club-record 129 in a row, a streak dating all the way back to June 15, 2004, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

It's my estimation that every man ever got a statue made of 'em was one kinda sombitch or another.
