Pinwheel at it again...
« on: October 04, 2005, 10:33:52 am »
His  latest  pile of crap.  I'm surprised he can produce so many words with his own dick in his mouth.  That's not intended as a backhanded compliment either.  I can only assume he's triple jointed, in some freakish way, give his innate ability to bend whichever way the wind blows.

Someone needs to tell those dickheads over at the chronicle that this is not a good example of an act of contrition for being undeniable twats.

I love Bradley.

Quote:

A few feet away, Brad Ausmus seemed anxious to address the subject.

Me: "Would you agree the tombstone sports section turned this season around?"

Brad Ausmus: "It may have been a motivation for some players. It has been brought up quite a bit."

Me: "What about you?"

Ausmus: "I didn't really care."

Me: "I have a Hall of Fame vote. Want to rethink that answer?"

Ausmus: "What are you going to do? Keep me out of the Hall of Fame? I think I've done a good job of that all by myself."

I was told that Tim Purpura waved the tombstone in front of the players during a team meeting that day.

Dang.  You guys are tough.  It's not like they failed to mark to market, or funneled corporate money to candidates in state races, or drove 60 in the left-hand lane.  I thought it was a pretty funny column, and just about the right level of contrition.  Berkman's quote about Biggio was hilarious, as were the quotes from Biggio and Ausmus.

Great, now Pinwheel is getting a God complex.  Even Bruce Almighty powers wouldn't be enough to help that bunch.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Yeah, I'm surprised he hasn't reminded us how he got Clemens to sign by talking up the rookies.  Justice, intellectually bankrupt, trots out this well worn gambit.  Say something incredibly negative and stupid.  Then if what he says happens to come true, he touts his objectivity.  Cause, everyone who agrees with the managements' decisions or says something positive is obviously just a homer.  But, when his statements go horribly wrong, he spends time showing what a great guy he is by writing how horribly wrong he was.  It's a sleazy trick used by a lot of bottom feeders.  But exposing his ineptitude in front of the players?  I can't believe Ausmus didn't tell him to lidge off.

Indeed - "Lidge off" should be an immediate glossary entry.

I gotta see Jim use it. Just once.

Maybe in response to how valuable Burke has been to the team this year. Gotta admit, he helped get the team where it is today.

I thought the column was funny, too.  Particularly Bagwell's $50 million comment.  The Chronicle is getting a hard time for the June 1 article.  Justice at least has a sense of humor about it.  Ortiz or Lopez would just ignore the earlier column and never bring it up again.

He's not funny enough to make a living as a humorist.  He's a sports writer.  The standards for the profession are low at this point, but his pandering to the lowest common denominator is subterranean.  He makes a virtue of blowing with the prevailing opinion and when called on his hypocrisy pretends that he's so subtle that we missed his point.

Mea culpa articles are particularly self aggrandizing.  Who gives a shit what his opinion was and whether it was right or wrong?  His baboonish capering among the players highlights his lack of credibility which ultimately gives him no access as a reporter.  All we get is opinion.

sure, Burke helped , but only because we could not get anyone via trade who was a real MLB hitter. i hope he increased his trade value this year.

Seriously, I was just hoping for a "Lidge off!" quote from you, Jim.

Your assessment of Burke has been right on the money.

Agreed. And what's even worse is that he's not just a gibbering egoist, he's also predictably inaccurate:

"It began with a tombstone. You can look it up. The Astros were 19-32 when we buried them. On the morning of June 1, your Chronicle sports section featured a large drawing of a grave marker."

Yes, we can look it up. And as we all know it actually began a week earlier, specifically on May 24. And it was Kev, not Pinwheel. Any overlap between the Tombstone Corollary and Kevin's Uncanny Prediction of May 24, 2005 has been entirely coincidental. Just like everything else, Justice has merely been a spectator to events he misinterprets as having something to do with him.
"We live in a society of laws. Why do you think I took you to all those Police Academy movies? For fun? Well, I didn't hear anybody laughing, did you?"

"Lidge off" does not do it for me. i do, however, much prefer F-Bomb to Lights Out as a nickname for BL.

to his credit, Burke became a very good LFer minus an arm.

Yup.  That's when it ended between JPL and me.  Or maybe it was when he introduced me to his unit.

He's getting pounded in his blog for this one.  But, instead of owning up to being a fatuous non-entity, he's dancing around like a goober pretending it's a joke.
