I'm going to be especially unhappy when Hinch tells us in the post-game that Miley couldn't throw his usual stuff and then tomorrow they tell us he has shoulder discomfort.

This is the start of the last long push of the season:  11 straight games before the next off day.

Miley may not make it out of the first for crap's sake.

T1:

Moore doubles off the LCF wall
Gordon singles to CF on the first pitch, Moore to 3B
Gordon steals 2B
Nola doubles to LF, Moore scores, Gordon  scores
Seager...3-0...3-1...3-2...fouling off pitches...homers to RCF, Nola scores

Strom out

Murphy singles to LF
Vogelbach...3-2...walks, Murphy to 2B

Miley out, Sneed in

Lopes...0-2...1-2...2-2...pops out to shallow RF on a running catch by Tucker near the line
Fraley singles to LCF, broken bat shiftfuck chopper to SS...Murphy scores, Vogelbach to 2B
Bishop...0-2...1-2...2-2...strikes out swinging
Moore...0-2...strikes out swinging

Inning mercifully comes to a close.  But the M's smack Miley around...lead 5-0

There's no way any of his teammates know who that is.

Let's hope he had a coach along the way with the proper background.

I do appreciate that Wade sat right next to AJ after getting pulled.

I just wish there were 18 outs to his credit before he did it.

Nice study in physics 101:

Conservation of Momentum:
M1V1=M2V2

Gonzalez's M2 is way less than Yordan's M1, and his V2 was zero.

B2:

Alvarez grounds one up the middle, SS is there and boots it...E6
Gurriel doubles to RF, Alvarez to 3B
Wild pitch...Alvarez scores, Gurriel to 3B...ball came right back to Murphy, but Gonzales late getting to the plate and Yordan gets under the tag
Diaz...3-0...3-1...walks
Tucker pops out to shallow CF
Chirinos grounds into 5-4-3 double play

7-1

Bottom 10

Magill (RHP) on the bump

Tucker falls behind 0-2, evens the count as West still doesn't know his zone,  strikes out on a foul tip (expanded his zone early)
Chirinos flies out F9
Marisnick falls behind 0-2, count goes full,  Ks swinging

End 10

West knows that if the batter doesn't swing,  the pitch is either a ball or a strike.

Beyond that, he's got no clue.

The rookies pulled their weight in the pen as well covering 7 of the 13 innings.
Tho they gave up 6 hits & 4 runs, they recorded 9 of the 15 K's and got the WIN!

He sat next to AJ for the duration.  Hopefully that's a good sign it's not injury related.

But who knows.

Just one of those nights. He was throwing strikes again. I bet he bounces back.

Was classy how Miley hung around to support the rest of the team during the game, which has to be is worst mlb outing.
Loved how the Astros just refused to give up.

4 Takeaways for tonight:

1.) Joe West has no business being a big league umpire, and the next 5 years of his "career" are going to be increasingly trash.

2.) Tucker delivered twice, one in a nice spot and once in a huge spot. Good for him.

3.) Uncle Mike is a fucking badass. Period.

4.) What a shit night for Miley. Good on him for not throwing a tantrum/storming to the clubhouse. The fact the Astros scraped up a win is a insane.

Good post, Mark. Joe West is terrible.

I actually thought Geriatric Joe had a decent, consistent strike zone for the first five innings or so.  But holy shit, by the time extra innings rolled around, he was absolutely guessing out there.  Must have been well past his bedtime.

One more from me: Miley threw strikes and said it was the best he felt in a month. They hit him, sure, but he threw well, imo. Shit happens.

Next start is Oakland at MMP.  That's a biggie for him, and of course the club.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"
