What if this guy had been around when the Astros blew an 7-run lead in the 9th inning vs. the Brewers?
Or, if that's too harsh a memory, when rookie call-up Roy Ooswald (or something like that) loaded the bases in the first inning without recording an out - also against the Brewers, IIRC - to bring to the plate Jeromy Bernitz, who proceeded to work a 3-0 count. If I tell you that Oswalt got out of the inning without a run scoring you'll think that's unlikely but hilarious. What happened to Bernitz, though, when sitting dead red on the 3-0 count and got a pitch right down the pipe - but about 15mph slower than expected - is burned into my memory. He basically corkscrewed himself into the ground and was falling over long before the ball even crossed the plate. Roy took two more pitches to strike out the traumatized Bernitz, then got out of the inning easily, and then went on to be a major stud pitcher for years.
Just think about what happens if Bernitz gets a piece of that change, the Brewers go on to batter Oswalt, and he gets sent down again. Oy!
