Springer reached on an infield single.
Altuve struck out on 3 pitches (last one was eyebrow height, so he swung)
A couple of flyballs ended it.

No score after 1.

Impressive that waited on it.   78 mph and ended up popped to left field.

Jake Ks swinging.

The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

It was a good fastball, JV just hit the bat with it.

Mayfield and Straw make 2 quick outs.

Springer gets ahead 2-0, then even,  then full,  finally lines an outside pitch to right.

Altuve takes 2 balls then a strike, another ball,  misses a FB to go full,  fouls one back. Flies out to right.

1 to 0 Tigers after 5.

Someone needs to send a telegram to the dugout informing the team that no less than 2 runs are required to win this game. Perhaps a bilingual singing telegram to add a festive element.

Whatever the Tigers are sending out 1-9 has 1 more run against Justin Verlander than a depleted Astros squad has against the ever formidable, historically dominant against the Astros, Unknown Lefty(ies).

That was terrible.

Buck Farmer (RHP, adult film star) pitching

Springer 5-3
Altuve walks
Bregman grounds into a 6-3-5 dp (Altuve was running in the play).

Under review.  . . .

Why would one possibly want a runner on second with 2 outs and Yordan and Yuli coming up?

Here's what I don't understand: he's way off the plate, presumably so won't get jammed. So then the pitcher does him a favor on the 3-1 pitch and throws a nice fastball thigh-high on the inner third, right where he could clobber it, and Jose watches it. Maybe he was upset that he didn't get a slider down and away.

I blame the bookies. Apparently they put the Astros at -500, for some sort of record. The previous record was the Astros against Baltimore, at -460 or something, in the Sunday game that they lost in the 9th inning.

What a fitting end.

If I were Hinch, i’d be yelling a bit in the clubhouse.

Why else did he absolutely have to be at third with two outs? Because he might have trouble scoring from second on a single? They were going to run for him anyway...

ETA: Then I remember who they had to scrape up just to fill a lineup tonight. If Correa is gone for a while, this offense might end up being a worse problem than the bullpen.

I doubt he was thinking cycle when he was running.  He saw the fielder dive and miss, and was trying to get as many bases as he could.  Bad decision.  Doesn't make him a bad person.

Two consecutive games the offense has not supported a JV gem. Both games he gave up two solo homers and struck out more than 10. The offense scored three runs total.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

I'm assuming Reddick would have hit for either Mayfield or Straw.

Yes.

Righty on the hill,  I'm sure if Brantley reached without the run scoring Josh would have hit next.

And your prediction would have been put to the test.

Alas . . .

This is more likely than pinch running.

Yordan taking strike three is inexplicable.

The approaches at the plate in both games seemed so lackluster. It's not like the opposing pitchers were dominant. They were just leading our hitters by the nose into doing nothing.

Straw instead of Brantley makes no sense.

He suddenly seems oddly passive. I wonder if the coaches got onto him about the bad pitches he chased last week and now he's overcompensating.

I don't think he's passive, and I doubt the coaches want him to stop being selective.  Strike three there was down in the zone, a pitcher's pitch, but he has to protect with 2-strikes, especially down a run in the 9th.  He got a pitch to hit earlier in the count and fouled it off, which as Jim has pointed out several times in the last week, the bigger concern, his not hitting pitches he should be punishing.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

I am fucking tired of hearing about Yordan’s records. He needs to be consistent and to punish mistakes.

He was the least of the problems tonight.

He was one of them, but the loss was not his fault. No one in the middle of the order hit, and the stars did not play like stars. My comment about Yordan was general, and I have felt this way for a couple of weeks or more.

Yeah, I was picking up the notion that you might not be bashful.
