Back-to-back shibbys by ABreg and Alvarez make it 3-0 early.

Did Alvarez actually clear that fence? (Not the outfield fence, obviously, but the iron fence/gate behind the seats.)

Couldn't see closely but it was crushed.

Yes. He hit it out onto Eutaw Street. Very rare at Camden.

Limits the damage to one run. Not bad when looking at the bases loaded and only one out. Hopefully he'll settle down next inning.

Good job of limiting damage.

Yes, balk. Some balk calls are legit, but a lot of them seem pretty damn finicky and of no real consequence. That's a rule that I think could use some overhaul.

99% of balks at this level are for pitchers who are flirting with the line of a rule.  They simply don't make egregious balks.  This was ticky tack, but it's one of those "nip it in the bud" calls.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

3rd grounder of the inning ends it.

The strike zone,  Aaron.  Find it.

The ball,  Alex.  Don't forget it.

The tall shortstop,  Jose.   Don't throw it over his head.

Correa's home run was ridiculous, completely over the bullpen and out into the concourse behind the flags.

They're now saying it's the longest home run in this stadium in the StatCast era, and possibly ever.

I think they called him for being in the set position and not stopping.  He set up with his feet parallel to the rubber, which indicated the set position.  Unless he notified the umpire he was pitching from the windup, he has to stop.

Opened the retro ballpark trend.   And thank goodness for that.

I ate lunch At Dempsey’s which is right near where Yordans homer ended up, no game going on when I was there though.  The Old bay crab dip was quite tasty.

Best ballpark I have been to.

Was trying to go this weekend. Normally flights from IAH to BWI are dirt cheap, usually $240-$330.  For whatever reason they were near $600.

After this ridiculous heat we have been having, booked a flight for San Fran next week to watch the Astros A’s and check off the final west coast stadium I haven’t been to.  High in Oakland is like 68 degrees.  Can’t fucking wait.

Well it starts with tomorrow's score starting at 0-0.

But this Orioles team sucks so bad there's nothing to recover.

Actual real vinyl. I bought some today at the local used record shop, and man do people let their records get dirty.  Of course, I clean brand new records right out of the cellophane too. They’re also dirty as shit.

Today I was on an 80s kick. I bought:

Armed Forces - Elvis Costello
Phantoms - The Fixx
And finally found a decent original copy of U2’s The Unforgettable Fire, which I think is their masterpiece.

I also had quite a few others that needed cleaning. I use an ultrasonic cleaner. Best thing I’ve ever found.

Oh, so have I. But some of the used vinyl you see is unbelievably dirty. Not necessarily scratched up but some are mildewed and such and just need a good cleaning.

I have just a basic 6 liter cleaner from amazon. About $120. I just use a long screwdriver threw the hole, rest it on the cleaner, and turn them by hand. Rinse them with distilled water and set them on solo cups to air dry. They have fancy turning devices to do all of that for you, but they want absurd money for them. Turning by hand does the exact same thing. It’s more labor intensive, but something mindless to do while watching the game.

A Discwasher can get rid of a little surface dust, and it’s good for in between playing, but it can’t really clean a dirty record. As Ty says, some are so bad and mildewed you’d think they’re completely unplayable. 20 minutes in an ultrasonic and you’d think it’s a brand new record. Not a pop.

That's basically what the Spin-Clean is, a manual cleaner with microfiber brushes and rollers that you spin yourself. You can clean about 20 LPs with  a mix of distilled water and a capful of their cleaner until you need to change out the batch. I want to give my relatively small collection the once over, along with any new/used vinyl that comes in.

A Spin Clean does an ok job, but seriously...nothing comes close to the ultrasonic cleaning. It is by far THE best way to clean vinyl.  You should check it out.

Joshua Tree and Appetite for Destruction were 2 cassettes I literally wore out.  Still remember the street I was on when Appetite gave up the ghost.

I don't think any of our vinyl survived.  Nor the 8 tracks.  We had a great Buddy Holly double album and Willie Nelson Sings Kris Kristofferson on vinyl.  That's still my favorite Willie album.

First time I heard Appetite for Destruction I thought “this is the greatest band in the world”. Then I saw them live and thought “this is the worst band in the world”. I couldn’t believe it was the same band that made that record.

Oh I just don't know where to begin.

I have thousands of vinyl records. You know what I do to keep them clean? I put the sleeve in upside down (side A facing towards the front, of course) so the dust can't rain down into the slit and onto the vinyl.

A bit more history last night:

Quote from: MLB Stats
Aristides Aquino and Yordan Alvarez are:

-Both rookies.
-Both hit 3 home runs tonight.

This is the first time EVER two rookies have had 3-HR games on the same day.

So 'splain to me why the Dodgers gave up Alvarez?

If this is a serious question, I’ll give a serious answer. LAD wanted Josh Fields, who you may remember was a pretty good, hard-throwing reliever for Houston. Someone on the Astros scouting staff had a long and good relationship with Álvarez, but LAD had won the bidding war to sign him. He was about 180 lbs. and had not yet played a game in the Dodgers system. When Houston asked for “Álvarez” for Fields, the Dodgers thought they meant a pitcher. The Astros had to tell LAD there was another Álvarez, and the trade then was a simple “Oh, him. OK.” Álvarez and the Houston scout were ecstatic.

LAD did not know what they had. Maybe Houston did not forsee this either. I know I told Mark after watching several ST games on TV this year: “I like Álvarez better than Tucker.” He was hitting .471 in RR at one point. Wowser.

We left before the Yordan salami, so maybe it's just the Orioles

Sorry you had to leave early, Biz, but I get it with four of them. What a cannonade!

Oh I just don't know where to begin.

I have thousands of vinyl records. You know what I do to keep them clean? I put the sleeve in upside down (side A facing towards the front, of course) so the dust can't rain down into the slit and onto the vinyl.

Of course.  We all do that (well, I don’t really give a shit which direction the record faces in the sleeve).  But records still get dirty. They come dirty right from the manufacturer. And if you buy one used it’s a mess. Your stylus also gets dirty and needs to be cleaned regularly. Cleaning is just one of those things. No getting around it.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Too me, he was just getting warmed up on his first three albums but I'm the kind of fan that loves all his work. He's one of my all time favorites.

I'm pretty sure Get Happy!! is the record I've spent the most time with, but I can get lost in anything he's ever done, even records I don't really like all that much.

I celebrate the guy's entire catalog.

My money's on das.

Late the the game here.  Yes, I've been many times.  A bunch with Melvin (posts as Houston on here sometimes) as well.  Camden Yard is still my favorite MLB ballpark and I've been to 11 or 12 so far.  It set the standard when it was created and they have done an excellent job updating sound, video and amenities while not distracting from the classic beauty of the stadium one bit.  It's just gorgeous, the food is great, the sightlines are great and you can bring in your own food.

The Griffey plaque is where he hit one during the homerun derby one year.  It was not in a live game.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

Late posting after a great but brutal day with the boys. We had a 3.5 hour drive back to NYC after the game (and all the boys had summer camp the next morning), so we left our mercifully shaded seats under the club level and watched the top of the 9th from the awesome SRO area in right field. Was great watching that half-inning there, even though we had no idea what happened on Brantley's "inside-the-parker" directly under us.

After that, we headed out (figuring it was either a win or we didn't want to see it, which was accurate). I hope the young Orioles fan, who was crying and couldn't watch the T9 runs score, stayed for the finish (I told him about the Astros wandering in the wilderness, and that they stole our whole front office).

Agree the Camden may be the best park I've been to (as bad as it sounds, with 4 boys between 2-8, the birds nest playground with TVs was great for middle innings). That said, whatever the Giants are calling their stadium is still hard to beat.

The idea that you would, alone, take your four boys to games in Baltimore absolutely blows my mind. I can't take my kid to the goddamn grocery store alone without that little lunatic's running off into the ether. If I had four of them, they'd each pick a cardinal direction and I'd have to decide which I thought had the best chance of survival until the age of majority and run after that one. Or, thinking this through a little more, maybe pick the one with the worst chance. I'll never know, hopefully.

Oh, I've been to Camden Yards, too, of course. Many times. I like it just fine but am a little mystified by those of you guys who rank it so high. I like the parks in Pittsburgh and Seattle better, just off the top of my head.

I have not been to the current Seattle ballpark, but I love Pittsburgh and SF too.

I also am in awe of his corralling four boys at baseball games by himself.

Whoa, whoa, whoa - I never said I controlled them (although I did only have to rescue my two year old from security once).

If the links work, I think the second picture is right before Brantley's "Homer".

Hell, I can't even imagine. I have a hard time just organizing myself. No way I could manage four boys.

Looks like good old Henry's thinking about making a break for it.
