Jake Marisnick - a good villain, a bad guy, or neither?

Good article about Marisnick

Quote
....And so it has been quite the 10 days for a guy whose transgression was diving for the inside edge of home plate rather than the outside edge, a 17-inch miscalculation made in a split second that, first, injured Lucroy and, second, became Marisnick’s to explain.

He has been the adult in the room ever since, from the tenderness he showed Lucroy immediately after impact to the herding of angry teammates when the retaliation finally arrived....

According to the HC, during a team meeting after the loss (and his HBP) that seemed to help the team refocus.

Quote
(Marisnick) "Put this stuff behind us and get out and get some wins," Marisnick pleaded before Wednesday's game. "We got beat up the last couple days, we lost two here, so we're looking to get back out and get a win today."

Well done!

Good stuff. Marisnick sounds like a leader. I'm so glad he's an Astro.

Me, too.
He makes it look so easy covering the outfield; good to see him hitting better.

Spiking Marisnick was 100% bush. Marisnick was guilty of nothing but playing clean, sportsman like baseball. The Angels have been through a difficult time and Marisnick correctly gave them a pass.

An excellent point. I used to respect Ausmus as a manager, but he probably ordered the pitcher to dot Marisnick. I have no more respect for Ausmus. Fuck him. I hope his team falls apart.

I have been surprised (not in a good way) at Ausmus in post game interviews and especially in his comments after the Marisnick incident.  He comes across exasperated, dull, full of platitudes, not very insightful and decidedly old school. I have a hard time reconciling what I see with his reputation.

That said, my perception may be tainted by 4 years of Hinch, who is one of the most media-savvy baseball people I have ever seen.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

Ausmus had a rep as a whiner in Detroit. His last year, he got run at least six times. Always bitching.

Did Ausmus ever block the plate in his Astros career?  Back when it was legal?  Or was it just swipetag?
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

He was a matador.

That's my recollection.

I loved Bagwell talking about Scioscia lobbying for the rule protecting catchers:  "He blocked the plate on me once when I homered".

Bagwell is a hoot, fun to listen to his stories.
