Chirinos with a 2-run HR. Yuli had an RBI single. Astros 3-0.

Verlander seemingly out of the 1st with only 9 pitches thrown, but 2 veteran outfielders let a long hanging pop fly fall between them. Marisnick should have taken charge on that. Now full count on the next batter

That was unreal.

Would have been a nine pitch inning.

Shot of Marisnick and Brantley... ahem... discussing the issue. It should be handled this way "Jake, you're the CF, you have to make the call and go get it. End of discussion... call me off dude". Why there is even a modicum of discussion is beyond me. Jake has no reasonable argument to make.

Jake Marisnick, Michael Brantley and outfield coach Gary Pettis had a pretty long discussion before going out for the second inning.

Looks like JV made a beeline to HPU Gerry Davis to discuss something. I've noticed that the low strike off the breaking ball is fooling Davis and he's hestitant to give that to JV. Not sure if that was a discussion point.

I don't know what White is trying to do with his swings, but it's really ugly lately. He's swings are loopy, as if he's trying to get air underneath a pitch but all he does is create an upper cut swing (think a right handed Tucker) that is missing a ton of hittable pitches. I know White is known for going the opposite way with his swings but this new thing he's trying to pull the ball and get it into the air ain't working.

There is so much mechanically wrong with his swing, it would take less time to list the things he's doing right.

Mostly because there aren't any.

He's just a straight up fucking mess.

And I see White falling on his knees so much lately because of his screwy swing that I wonder if he's not thinking to himself "This ain't working!" He's very uncomfortable doing what he's doing because it shows.

He is an at bat or two away from going below the Mendoza line. You can’t have a hitter with that many at bats hitting below .200 in this lineup. I’m sure the boss has a plan and I’m ready for him to execute it.

Wonder if no glasses was the issue for Marisnick in the 1st? If so, he has to be yelling at Brantley to take it.

That routine fly ball to left was the best swing White has had in a week.

This would be a great time. They're probably past the Super 2 line for Alvarez, coming home tomorrow, and facing a AAA-level pitching staff to ease the new guy into the bigs.

Jake gestured to both Petite and Brantley that he could not see the ball (he did the old three stooges fingers to the eyeball gesture). If so, big mistake to go out there with a high sky without the shades. He has them on now.

Thought the same thing... it was a much more controlled swing with less upward swing and more meet the ball approach. And the leg kick was even less in use, almost non-existent. Just got it at the end of the bat enough to keep it in the park, but good approach, good swing.

I liked Springer's transition from excitedly gesturing for the ball to be returned to the dugout to clamming up to give Mayfield the silent treatment.

JV pitched better than his line shows. I’m still pissed about that fly ball in the first. And now Harris gets chased after allowing 3 hits and 3 runs to score. Great.

0-2 and then messes around with pitches outside the zone. Forced into a hitters count and serves a fastball right down the middle. Damnit.

Heartbreaking AB to watch. Why nibble, go after him up and away and force him to protect. Instead, nibble at corners down and get into the hitters count. I don't understand the thinking.

This has been a very messy game played by the Astros. From Jake's mistake in the first to every inning from there, the Astros have played a very ugly brand of baseball (save a few good defensive plays). Everything else has been less than professional approaches you come to admire about this club. Either they're tired or spent the night out on the town and are exhausted because of it, but not the sort of play you expect from this club.

Same shift employed by the Astros. But James is giving nothing to Encarnacion to hit. Meaning, he's basically going to walk the guy with those type of pitches.

Finally, an Astro pitcher attacked the zone and got the Mariners hitter. Damn, they've been treating the hitters with too much respect to be throwing the way they have in this game. Go after them, make them earn a run, don't give it to them!

That was odd

For those not watching, Santana struck out swinging, and on the follow through the bat hit Chirinos's mitt, knocking the ball out. Chirinos runs it down and flips to 1B for the put out.

At this point, I don't care if it's a win or a loss. Just end it soon. The pen can't take any more of this.

No problem, Tyler White is ready to take over. We can put a pitcher at 1st.

Devinski tried mightily to cough that one up but Seattle wasn't having it. Very likely ball four and a tie game if Long takes the last pitch.
