Where the hell is Bregman?
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

Martin works around a couple of weak singles.

No score midway through the 1st

Raise your hand if you thought Brantley was going to be the ironman for this team.

Once he showed Lester that he was willing to swing at that ball in the dirt, it wasn't hard to guess what was coming on the next pitch.

Lester has thrown a few pitches in his career. Mayfield likely saw pitches he’d never seen before.

I have no doubt White is ernestly trying to do well.

But good grief.   The one time he's up where a groundball is all he needs and he pops out to center.

Yep, you cannot let up even for a pitch. Hitters in this league do not give away at bats. Ever.

It’s kind of a letdown when the 9 hitter turns the lineup over...and then you realize it’s Derek Fisher.

He catches like a high school kid who hasn’t learned to receive or frame a pitch. He’s cost Martin four or five strikes with his jackrabbit routine.

Probably neither here nor there,  but I'd rather see Martin walk off the field with better body language than that.

Of course I'd rather see him pitch better even more than that.

I think Stubbs is going to loose his head.  He's seems to reach for the pitch.

He's checking off boxes tonight: first start, first hit, first RBI, first run scored, first passed ball (although I think they ruled it a wild pitch)...

He's still overthrowing sometimes when he gets in those two-strike counts, but he's getting back to where he was last year.

Didn’t get to see it as I’ve got to settle for radio tonight. It sounded initially as if they thought it was a passed ball as well.

True, but it doesn’t sound like anyone at RR is blowing folks away. Who would be the next man up? Stat line isn’t pretty but would you bring Perez back up? Let him start a game or move Valdez back to rotation and put Perez in the pen??

Don’t know about aggressiveness, but he has zero command.

After start # 2 McTaggart had the note that Martin had thrown fastball at a 55% rate.  League average 35%.

I suspect that speaks more to his inability to use his other pitches (or lack of confidence) rather than to the strength of his fastball.

That is more accurate, but I wonder if some of that is a bit of fear. To me, he just has the look of someone wary of keeping pitches in the zone.

He is behind the hitters and has more confidence in it when he must throw a strike. Big contrast between his first game and the rest.

The real question is if you send him down, who comes up and who takes his starts. James or Rodgers are potential options to start. As far the bullpen spot,  Reymin Guduan again? Was going to say Deetz but his numbers are terrible, other than K's. Seems like everyone in Round Rock is pitching like shit

When was the last time he made a move before the All-Star break? I'll answer for you, he has 1 time but not since 2012

2012 Traded Carlos Lee July 4
Traded JA Happ July 20
Traded Brett Myers July 21
Traded Wandy Rodriguez July 24

2013 Traded Jose Veras July 29
Traded Justin Maxwell July 31
Traded Bud Norris July 31

2014 Traded Cosart and Hernandez July 31

2015 traded for Scott Kazmir on July 23
Traded for Gomez and Fiers on July 30

2016 no incoming major league players

2017 traded for Liriano July 31

2018 Maldonado July 26
Pressly July 27

Until he makes a June move, I'm going to assume there will be no trade until after the All-Star break

On the lighter side, Osuna gets some payback from Almora last night....
« Reply #152 on: May 29, 2019, 07:10:56 pm »
Astros promotional chatter overshadowed the start of the top of the 9th last night, as Almora came to the plate with one out.  He was apparently hoping for another fat FB from Osuna.

But his surprise - and smile - was caught by the Cubs announcers who laughed w/ Almora as he chased a slider on the 1st pitch.

Payback!
