Morning Lineup MLB Podcast
« on: May 22, 2019, 08:08:41 am »
Listened this morning it was Footer & Justice co hosting.  They were discussing the need for the Mets to fire their manager and a lively discussion broke out between the two over the 2004 Astros move from Williams to Garner.

Also there is an interview with Luhnow that has some good info.  Mainly it will remove all doubt that they made an offer to every free agent who left last year.  Also talked about dealing with all the front office changes over the past few years.  Good stuff.

I listen to this one because it only comes out 3 days a week.  Sticks to baseball and the regular host Anthony Castrovince and Justice have a pretty good rapport.
Always ready to go to a game.

Thanks for the link. Also very interesting to hear Luhnow thinks they’ll go to an automated strike zone “soon.”

I haven't followed the intricacies of this issue, but I have a lot of nerd in me.  For those that have followed it, do you know:

1.  What is the selection criteria for being a strike? Part of the ball touching the line, half of the ball, all of the ball or something else?
2.  I assume it must be tailored to the batter, how do they plan on dealing with this?

It would be interesting if the varied the selection criteria, and let both teams know before the game started, just to add some spice.  You know, "Today, the zone will be as wide as possible (any part of the ball), or as tight as possible (all of the ball)"

But Justice.

Usually he plays the goofy old guy on the pod cast.  On this one, there was some arguing as Footer had a very different feeling on the impact of the managerial change in 04 than Justice.  It was great.

For the record, who was on which side of the manager argument?

My hunch is that Footer is a big fan of old scraps.

The rules are pretty clear on what a strike is. Any part of the ball passes through any part of the strike zone, it's a strike. So if one red thread clips the last millimeter of the zone, it should be called a strike.

The width of the zone never changes. It'd be easy enough to establish a height for each individual and have the computer set for each one. This could be done once at the beginning of the season for every player, or when a player is added to the roster. This should not be an impediment.

The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

He also was arguing that the manager change wasn't the catalyst for the improvement.  He was saying it was a bench clearing brawl about a month later.  She said "wrong".

Justice clearly wasn't watching what all the rest of us were watching.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

Did you try a Bing search? DuckDuckGo search? Gotta be somewhere.

If Footer and Pinwheel are on opposing sides, it would take God himself to get me to side with Justice.

It's pretty funny how they were both covering the team on a daily basis at the time and one of them was fully aware of what was going on both on the surface and beneath it while the other was content to invent his own reality and live there.

And he got paid more than she did, I'll bet you anything. Still does, I'm sure.
