Yankees at Astros, April 10, 2019
« on: April 10, 2019, 06:42:37 pm »
Three pitches, 1-0 Yankees.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

After 1/2 inning...1-0 Yankees.  Astros seem obsessed with falling behind early this series.

McHugh certainly settled down after the HR (no idea how much the wind helped it), struck out the next 3 on 12 pitches.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

Altuve hits one off the top of the wall in LF...bounces back, ruled a double...under review, replays shows it hit the railing...should be a home run....

Not sure why the review is taking so long.  Looked pretty clear to me.

Great job by Carlos and Yuli there with 2 outs.  Gardner?  Not so much.

I think if you knock an infielder over, it should be a HR.

That ball took a nasty fucking hop. That’s how you lose teeth.

Correa with an RBI double to make it 3-1

When they finally go back to 13 pitchers I’m hoping White is the one who is traded. Kemp is way more consistent and a better all around player.

Walk, home run, single, walk

Yankees now with the tying run at the plate, nobody out. I’m not liking this development.

And fucking Sanchez up.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

What a fucking shit show by the pen.

I don't carry around the deep reserves of Yankee hate that some of you guys not unreasonably do, but I'm on board hoping they lose 100 games this year and I'll tell you why. I would like to think I have an appropriate level of respect for the game. Because of that, it offends me deeply that the Yankees seem to believe that they can assemble a competitive team by putting together a lineup of giant goons who can crush home runs and a bullpen the back of which features a bunch of guys who throw 100 miles per hour. I don't think defense registers even as an afterthought to these idiots. This team's defensive ineptitude offends me more than it brings me joy at the resulting failures. It's not surprising, I don't suppose. They sent Derek Jeter out to play shortstop for 20 years. For any number of those years the best shortstop in baseball played third base right next to him, so they obviously have never cared all that much about defense. But this is pretty bad.

It's not the worst defensive team I've ever seen, but they obviously don't care at all, and that pisses me off.

Agreed. I should not have attacked the man’s character for simply being unable to do his job. I was just pissed at the situation. But he does need to be sent down to work on said job. Bring the lefty Perez to replace him. Too bad there isn’t room for Tanielu, who hit that walk off slam for Express last night.

Perez’s stat line at RR is not good in his one appearance so far. Guduan’s is a little better. Only one or two appearances so far though.

I’m guessing it will be Guduan. Lefty for a lefty with Perez staying down to get stretched out. Luhnow has been quoted as saying he thinks of Perez as a starter. We’ll see though.

May not be a pitcher since peacock will be in the pen for the next few series.  Packing extra offense for the road trip wouldn’t be a bad idea, especially with Bregman’s Hammy a question mark.

You could be right but it almost has to be a pitcher since with Framber gone they are down to 11 if I’m counting right. Wasn’t AJ just quoted about a week or so ago as saying he’ll be glad when we can get back to 13 pitchers?? I don’t see any way they don’t add a pitcher back to the staff with Valdez gone, especially with the Mariners hitting like they have.

I will follow up my thought above with this one. If they are really going to go back to 13 pitchers, and I think they will, then that pretty much means either Tony Kemp or Tyler White has to go. I find it interesting that Valdez is optioned back to AAA and no immediate move has been announced from RR on who’s coming up. It could be they haven’t decided yet, or it could be it just hasn’t been announced. But it could also mean that a potential move for an innings eating relief pitcher could be in the works that would involve either Kemp or White being traded to make room for the 13th pitcher in the coming two or three weeks.

Going to be interesting for sure....

I certainly hope Kemp doesn’t go anywhere either. He’s a scrappy ball player who can handle the bat. He’s too valuable to part with in my opinion. I personally could do without Tyler White on the roster effective today. Would rather have that 13th pitcher or Alvarez called up. From the sounds of things, 13 pitchers is going to happen and probably some time in May if not sooner. The clock is ticking on that and what ever move they will have to make.

White needs to start driving the ball.

Or rather needed to start a week ago.

But I'm guessing he'll need to struggle longer before they'd give up on him and replace him with a prototypical 80s leadoff hitter.  Although I do like that particular hitter.
