Snuff, you might want to take a look at these OWA threads from the past few years. Lotsa good info on TJS and how it's developing:...
TY for the links, Nate. I tried several searches and found a number of posts, but did not find these threads.
[New Tommy John Procedure?] Good to know that an alternative procedure has been available since 2013, but the May 2018 article stated that it has been used world wide only 200 times by that date.
[Facts about Tommy John surgery] Interesting stats.
For example, one table estimated that 87% of the ML games will have at least one pitcher that has had TJS. The precentage ranges as high as 98% SF or Colorado to as low as 65% for Boston and 68% for Baltimore. (Houston was 84% probability.
On the next table, Baltimore has not had a ML Pitcher have TJS since June 2013, while Boston's last TJS was May 2016. I wonder if Boston or Baltimore have discovered something or have just been lucky.
[Reducing Tommy John surgeries] This list in this thread is most helpful, encouraging young pitchers to not focus on lighting up the radar gun and taking time off from baseball to enjoy other sports. Nutrition, hydration, conditioning and not pitching when tired can help the body to naturally recover.
Thank you, Nate.
