It’s 6:58 in the am here. I’m jet lagged as fucked. I have rum here, but I will only break it out in an emergency

Angels strand a runner (single), Astros strand a runner (walk).

Gattis barreled one foul before he K'd.

No score thru 2.

So we’ve played what, 3 or 4 hours now and we’re in the 3rd?

Verlander not putting them away quickly with 2 strikes.

He's past 60 pitches in the 3rd.

This is nuts. 64 pitches through 3 innings. The Angels just keep fouling things off.

So basically if it’s with a bats length over the hitters head, it’s a strike. Got it

Trout lines an 0-2 FB to Left, Kemp makes a nice play for the out.

Good hitting by Trout. Fouled off some high FBs then Verlander mislocated another and he pounced.

Did Marwin hit it hard? At Bat said line out.

BTW, UT kicked TCU’s ass.

I was just about to post that I would have preferred Yuli in the cleanup spot. That was before he leads off with a double after Marwin left two on.

Altuve was thrown out for 3rd out.

Marwin will leadoff the bottom of the inning.

Thanks. My internet is a little slow and sporadic

Verlander goes 1,2,3 in the 6th.

He's past 100 pitches, Trout/Ohtani/Upton coming up in the 7th.

Interesting decision coming up.

I say run him out there one more time.  But my opinion means exactly shit.

This game is about 5-0 if you swap Marwin and Yuli.

Yuli squeezes one thru the middle for a 1 out single.

Out goes Bedrosian, in comes a lefty for McCann.

Actually Reddick has to hit first. Or are you making assumptions?

Reddick follows Yuli's lead and singles up the middle,  Yuli stops at 2nd.

1st/2nd for McCann.

The first ABs to Gonzalez then Marte cost him 25 of his 107 pitches.

He's trying to show confidence in him, but Rondon really needs about a week off to rest. He's just worn out.

I get it, but, fuck his confidence. Do that in another situation. We need the fucking win.

This strike zone has shrunk.  Doesn't excuse  Rondón,  but it ain't helping.

Ball four to Young has been a strike all night long. Until that pitch.

This bullpen is why the Astros are unlikely to go deep in the postseason. No lead seems safe in the last three innings.

Don't forget the absolute inability to score at home.

You can’t b up by 8 runs every game.  You have to be able to hold leads late, regardless of the score.  This is a comolet bullpen failure. There’s been a lot of that this season.

Luhnow's going to have to decide if this is just one of those years where the bullpen is weird, or if the pen needs a complete overhaul. He's going to have a lot of thinking to do in the offseason.

Top 8th

Rondón pitching, Jake in CF, Springer in RF, Kemp to the bench

Young Jr (PH) checks on 3-2, walks
Arcia (PH) 0-2, Young Jr steals 2nd, doubles down the LF line on an 0 fucking 2 pitch,  run scores
Calhoun Ks looking
Smith relieves Rondón
Marte taps to Smith,  freezes the runner but Smith throws behind the fucking runner who is safe at third
Trout crushes a 3 run HR
Ohtani reaches on an infield single
Upton walks
Simmons takes a ball,  McCann mishandles it for a PB (crossup) advancing the runner,  doubles off the wall in Left center scoring Ohtani, making it 5 batters faced,  zero retired by Smith as AJ comes out.
McHugh in
Ward hits a grounder to the drawn in infield,  Upton out at the plate
Young Jr F7

Mid 8
Angels 5
Astros 1

2nd time this week Rondón has crapped all over a 1-0 lead.

I'm pissed at the offense too, but his job is to get outs and he's sucked at it for the past 2 weeks.

And I just looked it up,  turns out 1 run games are allowed in the postseason.

I said I agree. But this team’s inability to hit situationally puts undue pressure on the staff and pen.

Luhnow's going to have to decide if this is just one of those years where the bullpen is weird, or if the pen needs a complete overhaul. He's going to have a lot of thinking to do in the offseason.
My money's on the former.

This weird argument feels like the 'well you can't put Giles in a non-save situation' position.

My wife pointed out this morning that we're going to be in a situation where Giles could come back to haunt us.

I switched to the Iowa-Wisconsin game to give the good guys a chance. Of course, as soon as I did that, some Iowa dimwit stepped on the football while blocking for a punt that nobody wanted to field, gifting the ball to Wisconsin at the Iowa 10 or so.

We sacrificed it for tonight's dinner.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

After the 5-1 lead, and then Oakland took a 2-1 lead, I thought this might be a pivotal night.  It still might be, but not the way I expected.

I was right there too.  Sick feeling.

Lead off runner is picked off after Cave failed twice to get a sac bunt down. Cave flies out, 2 down.

Gattis produced the initial run that got buried in the bullpen sewage,  and had another big *opposite field* hit in the 8th.

I love it when the Astros win,  and I really love it when Gattis contributes.

Lowrie singles, 1st and 2nd, no outs.  I don't like this.  Davis up.

Petit strikes out to end the top of the 9th.  I sense a walk off coming.

After a Laureano strike out, their shortstop muffs one.  1st and 3rd, 1 out.

A’s get an unearned run on a walkoff wild pitch to win.

If you’d have asked me an hour and half ago (when the score was 5-1) if I’d take a 3.5 game lead after tonight I would have signed that dotted line. Keep winning.

Oakland clinches at least a tie for a wild card. Magic number for them is 1.

Luhnow's going to have to decide if this is just one of those years where the bullpen is weird, or if the pen needs a complete overhaul. He's going to have a lot of thinking to do in the offseason.

This is just crazy. Complete overhaul? This has been the best bullpen in baseball for most of the year. Pitchers fail occasionally, and they go into slumps. They have bad games. Were you going to release Verlander when he was giving up all those home runs?
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

At this point, I think Pressly is the only guy that can be trusted. Maybe Osuna. Maybe.

Why is Osuna getting thrown in with this?  2.29 ERA in Houston with 9 saves in 9 chances. More k's than hits allowed. 18/3 K/BB ratio.
