The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

And speaking of getting squeezed out of the lineup...Max Stassi's last RBI was on August 1st.  Couple of mostly forgotten men there.

Speaks highly of White that he's put the team's second leading HR hitter on the bench.

Gattis never does well when he’s rusting on the bench. But when that dude gets hot, holy shit.

White has hit himself into a key role on this team. Really hard to bench him.

I always got the impression the pitching staff never really clicked with Stassi and that was one reason for the Machete pickup. But I don’t know jack about that, so who knows?

Smith on the mound...Marisnick goes into CF and Springer to RF

Cruz chops over the mound, Altuve there on the shift and throws out the cement-footed Cruz 4-3
Healy pops out F4...Altuve behind 2B in the shift grabs the soft liner
Seager...0-2...1-2...pops up between the plate and 1B...Maldonado and Gurriel converge, and...both back away as it drops between them...gotta be an error onsomeone...Seager gets another chance, and 2-2...fouling off more pitches...works the count full...fouls off more pitches...finally strikes out swinging at the 13th pitch of the at bat.

Between Framber's 5 walks,  Maldonado's out 5 feet shy of 2nd base, and Yuli nearly getting beaned by a popup in foul territory that turned ultrapest Seager's AB into a monthlong affair,  this game has me looking for the Tums.

My hand to God, I ask this every year, but what in the living fuck are the persuasive reasons to continue letting people call balls and strikes?

Gattis strikes out looking

Oh I don't mind walking Haniger there.  It's the one to Zunino, and the others before that bug me.

T8:

Rondon in

Cruz singles to CF
Negron pinch runs for Cruz
Healy lines out to CF on a diving catch by Marisnic coming straight in....that's two balls smoked to CF
Seager bloops a single to LF, Negron to 2B
Cano, pinch hitting for Maybin, flies out F8 on ANOTHER spectacular diving catch by Marisnick, this one another potential bloop single
Span, pinch hitting for Zunino, works the count full...walks, Negron to 3B, Seager to 2B
Vogelbach, pinch hitting for Heredia, hits a grand slam to RCF, Negron scores, Seager scores, Span scores
Gordon triples to RCF
Haniger grounds out 6-3 on the first pitch

But Rondon implodes, 4-1 Mariners.

Perez? Devo good against lefties.  Rondon should have been pulled after the 4th bloop hit (Jakes thieving defense notwithstanding) before the walk and the grand slam.  He hadn’t been working out of his self inflicted trouble lately, so why leave him in to blow the lead?!

And yes, I know Devo has had his issues since coming off DL. Still would have used him against all those lefties.

Yep. He has not been good recently. One slider to Span, and it was swing and miss for 1-2. Too many straight fastballs. Walks.

Exactly. I feel like Sipp is now a late inning option and Perez is the situational guy. At least with this roster.

I fear Devo is done for the season.

Rondon only looked good for half an AB.

Rondon had his chance with Span and stepped on his dick.  You just can't walk that many guys and not give up runs.

Devo is done. Rondon is the 8th inning guy who has earned Hinch’s trust. Perez in a high leverage spot like that would be nuts.

McHugh would have been a good option and before the Osuna acquisition I would have liked to see him get a crack at the closer role.

All of this is hindsight and I started all of it so my bad. Shit happens sometimes.

Last three times out, bloop hits have hurt Rondon badly.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Diaz in for the M's...turn out the lights.

Sadly, you're not going to win many games when you only score one run.

Especially when you can only scratch one against a guy with a 3.5 ERA.

He gave up one tonight, but the screaming line drives did more damage

Diaz has made the next four generations of his family rich beyond imagination this year. Good for him.

B9:

Diaz in

Altuve grounds out 6-3 on the first pitch
Bregman taps back softly to the mound, 1-3
Gurriel flies out F8

Astros go down 4-1

Yup.

Fucking pathetic effort against a team that has been putrid recently.

Especially when you can only scratch one against a guy with a 3.5 ERA.

Mariners with 9 hits and 8 free passes...that's 17 base runners.

Astros with 3 hits (on one of which an out was recorded) and 3 walks

No comparison.

Sometimes one run should be enough for a great team. Tonight should have been one of those nights.

That's almost like a shortstop's line.

And includes his all-star first half.  Since the break, and his return, it's .178/.263/.229 for all at bats.  I'm not sure the RISP can be calculated..

He has given up some big hits, but he also has been plagued by bloop hits in key situations.
