Cano is back for the M’s. And will someone please sit in Mitch Haniger. That guy is killing me.

Bregman pops out F6. Imagine that
Marwin crushes a HR to the upper tank in RCF
Gurriel pops out F3
Correa...full count...strikes out looking.

1 pitch was 6 inches off the plate inside, and another was even further inside.

Last one bit and scraped the zone.

I really did watch The King of Marwin Marvin Gardens, today. Jack was so damn good,
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it
Truth isn't easy, the easy part's shit

He didn’t just foul it off - He drove it practically through the upper deck facing in foul territory in left.

Not that one.

The one I'm talking about he swung late and it went softly into the stands down the right field line.

I certainly hope that's it.

If his back is still wonky then things will be tough.

Me, too!

(Added later) His back problems would also show up in the field.  What's your read so far?

Recap for those smart enough to go to bed:

Springer didn't play (quad soreness)

Díaz has retired 21 of last 22 Astros he's faced.

Astros never threatened after the third.

5 hits,  3 by Marwin,  singles by Bregman and Yuli (both in the 3rd).

Cole only gave them 5 innings and struggled to do that.

Kemp was ahead 0-2 to the leadoff hitter in the 6th with a 4-3 lead and ends up giving up a double that eventually ties the game

Mchugh pitches in the 7th and 8th and gives up the deathblow to Canó (2 extra base hits,  his first since returning from PED suspension)

And we're tied again for the division with a non-starter starting tmw/later today.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Segura,  Gordon,  and Cruz all acted like bitches about strike calls. All the calls in questions were 1) strikes per the MD Anderson strike grid thing and 2) called consistently ALL FUCKING NIGHT.

Segura stepped to the back of the box,  faced the ump and jawed *before* the AB ended.  Gordon slammed his bat on the plate like an axe and likewise turned and engaged.   Cruz at least had the decency to bitch incorrectly after a strikeout.

Fuck these guys.

FTM.

Recap for those smart enough to go to bed:

...

Kemp Sipp was ahead 0-2 to the leadoff hitter in the 6th with a 4-3 lead and ends up giving up a double that eventually ties the game

...
I went to bed after the first McHugh run.

Sip and Pressly gave up the tying run. McHugh’s first run scored at the same time as the other 2, on Cano’s 3 run HR

some interesting stuff from astroscounty.com post-game this morning.

Astros and A's both have 75-50 records. The Astros have scored have scored 17 more runs and allowed 104 fewer.

Astros are 5-16 against AL West clubs since July 4th.

The five hits Astros accumulated last night is the 31st x this season to have 5 or less hits (125 games played).

4-9 in last night's lineup went 0-20 with 7ks and 2 walks.

Hernandez K'd 6 of the 25 hitters he faced last night. It took three starts and 76 batters over 3 starts previously.

Let's go get-em tonight fellas! (my comments added).

Agree!  Enuf of the gloom and doom.

I endured living in the Dallas area for almost a decade and could not believe the bellyaching of Cowboy's fans complaining about losing five games in (just) one season, while my Oilers could accomplish that easily in half a season.  Forget the playoffs, by the last 5-6 games Oilers fans were dreaming about how high our draft pick would be.

It would be a dream to be in the "hunt" at this time of the season.

We are!  (The rest of the baseball world - as well as most of us - are wondering when the Astros will start having fun again.

(IMHO) If the doom and gloomers really believed their rants, they would not check another Astros score, much less follow a game or post here until Spring Training.
Nothing worthwhile comes without pain, ask any Astros fan.

The game zone is for overreacting to everything.

We win-"this is the greatest team ever I love all you motherfuckers"

We lose- "fuck this team, it's just a bunch of cocksuckers who couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper sack. No way they make the postseason"

And that's ok. The rollercoaster is the best/worst part of the baseball season. Were all just a part of the ride.

Being a sports fan is all about putting your tender parts on an anvil and handing a sledge to to a brute.

When it comes down and misses you're allowed to be elated.

When it doesn't miss,  you're allowed to scream bloody murder.

The GZ is emotional. It’s drinking booze, swearing at the players, blaming each other for pissing off the BBGs. It’s not rational, it’s not reasoned or measured. The GZ is kind of like pissing down your leg.  Yes, most are disgusted by it, but it feels warm to you. It’s a special place.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Not quite.  I turned it off before Cano finished his trot.
