Down 2-0
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Verlander has become a gopher ball machine.

He's got a 5.17 ERA in the month of August (3 starts) coming into the game.  5 HR's allowed in the month coming into the game as well.

That’s pretty much it. You’re not getting three runs off of Manea and the A’s pen.

Most important game of the season and they shit the bed in the 1st inning.

Bottom 1:

As well as he's hit lately, he still has that issue of being extremely jumpy on inside pitches.

As well as he's hit lately, he still has that issue of being extremely jumpy on inside pitches.

Most of those have been pitches hitting the edge of the zone after getting his eyes looking elsewhere.

That one had him looking for the outside corner but busted inside.  Others have raised his eye level then cut him off at the knees.

Almost all have been strikes per zone tracker.

He was talking about “what people were saying a month ago”. (Which was mostly just him saying that a month ago) And now “it’s all up in the air” or something like that.

Double, single...two on, two out for the Astros...

Essence of a slump:

A 2 out hit with a runner on 2nd doesn't result in a run.

Slump buster (?) Third straight hit does get one in.

And La Piña goes deep to get the rest of them in!

Fuck. Tied.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

He didn’t know you’re allowed to swing at a first pitch fastball right down the middle.

Let's see if he throws some spin here.

Preferable good spin.

Not to mention it was hit 3,000 mph...he didn’t have time to get out of the box before it hit Chapman.
Apparently that's the key to hitting it anywhere near Chapman...short hop a curving liner at 106MPH
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

All in the past year too.

GIDP. Awesome.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

I think with the amount of time it took Maldonado to get to 3rd, it kinda seemed like it had to be the previous inning.

Just glad to see him playing. He can go 0 for 5 and look terrible, then go out and get 8 hits in the next three games.

When Altuve comes back,  what do they do with White?

I know he'll probably have to go,  but he'll be first in line for September call ups.

 He's been really good.

That’s my guess. It has to be another infielder, and it’s not going to be Correa, Bregman, or Yuli.

Gattis takes a sweet hanging curve so he can take a whack at a pitch over his head.

If Altuve rehabs right after Perez makes a start, you can send Perez down without much effect to the staff.

I can do defensive substitutions.

To the bottom of the 9th...9-4 Astros
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Man, I wish I had posted this so you’d believe me. I was sitting here thinking what I’d do in the 8th. I said to my sleeping dog: Kemp to left, Marwin to second, Yuli to first. AJ heard me.

Interesting that Kemp takes the defensive spot over Tucker.

Top 9:
Maldonado grounds out
Springer grounds out
Bregman flies out

Bottom 9:
Joe Smith now pitching
Semien grounds out
Canha grounds out
Pinder pinch hitting for Lucroy strikes out

Astros win 9-4
He breezed him, one more time!

When Oakland took the early lead, the game was the top story on mlb.com.  Now that the Astros won, not so much.  I think MLB really wanted Oakland to sweep.

So now I'm REALLY thinking about that overturned call on Friday.  Get Alex Jones on it!!!

Nice!  Today was a good day.  Hopefully more to come.

Realistically speaking:

Springer looks ok
Yuli is coming back around
Marwin has been pretty good for a while
Gattis's slumps are shorter and not as K-ridden
Altuve should be Altuve, Bregman is consistently really good

The big question remains Correa.  They love showing that "last 162" stat, but this season he's batting .253.  His numbers were off before the layoff (hurt and playing thru it?).

Production,  then consistent production is needed from CC then the other cogs listed above should shine.

I remember a walkoff hit Correa had right before he went on the dl. Teammates were trying to celebrate with him and Correa basically waved them off while grimacing and reaching towards his back. Like in a “you guys know I’m hurting” kind of way. I think he was hurt for awhile.

His muted celebration was a stark contrast with Bregman's celebration in a game or two prior to Correa's 1st walkoff.  The team immediately toned it down.

Observations from the A's broadcast team as they filled the on air time at the top of the 7th:

https://www.mlb.com/tv/g531269/v18145205-3dd6-4b98-8811-1b73662d66fa#game=531269,tfs=20180819_200500,game_state=live

They reveled in Maldonado’s celebration of the close of the 6th they had some truths to share about how brutal baseball can be b/c of the amount of failure involved.
(2:31:00) "….It is about enjoying your successes.  This is a game – quite literally – built upon failure.  And if you can’t find it (chuckle) somewhere inside of you to be able to enjoy the flash of success in a game that is built to beat you down, you will have a long one…"

(2:33:43) Then they discussed Springer hurting, having trouble gripping the bat with his gimpy hand.

Nothing worthwhile comes without pain, ask any Astros fan.

Just chopped up the chiles and mixed with a little chopped onion, chopped sweet red pepper and shredded mozzarella. Cut the pork tenderloin lengthwise to sort of filet it, layered on the mixture, rolled it up and tied it off with some butcher’s twine. Grilled at 500 over direct heat until 150 in the center. About 20 minutes. Finished off with some garlic/chili honey brushed over the top. Paired with some simple roasted garlic red potatoes. Had some watermelon I’d cut up Saturday for dessert.

Sounds great, was wondering if you did stuffed or smothered with the pork.  Enchiladas going in the oven tonight, I'll try the pork soon.

It was more of a stuffing. It oozed out some, and wasn’t real tight, but the idea was to have have the chile mixture stuffed inside a roll of pork.

I started with 3 large whole hot Hatch chiles, boiled them with a couple of garlic cloves, then blended in a cup of water with a pinch of salt and a pinch of cumin. It was too thin and too spicy, so I finely chopped up two tomatillos and a mild Hatch chile and added to the mix and let it simmer for 20 minutes. The tomatillos add a desired mild tang. I've already wiped it out. Gonna have to make more.
