They are going for it.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Does that nullify Maybin to the Mariners?  Now if one team had gotten both, that would have been something.

With the Astros hamstrung and knee-capped, the As have a great shot at the playoffs.

I’m telling you, the A’s are serious about this. Must be exciting if you are an A’s fan. They have some nice players to anchor that franchise for a while. I like the Chapman kid at third.

Well, regardless of the Astros and their injuries, the A's are presently in the playoffs, if the season ended today.

They are a hot team for sure, but I'm not sure how good they are.  Fiers isn't going to make me change my assessment either.

If only they had more fans. At least fans that would go to the games. 28th in ML attendance, same as last year. They need out of that dump.

Ran into an As fan this summer on vacation.   He was complimentary of the Astros.

I thanked him for Reddick.   He was frustrated that they couldn't keep him.

This guy was also a warriors fan so my sympathy didn't run too deep.

Seriously, Fiers IMHO does little to improve the As playoff chances.

They were doing fine without him.

Beane typically goes all in whenever he thinks they have a shot.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Another starter who can eat innings is good for a young staff.

Not to mention Mike has had a very good year. One of the best of his career if I’m not mistaken.

I've watched Fiers several times this season. His command has improved quite a bit. The reason why I'm skeptical about the A's is that 2/5 of their rotation is made up of Edwin Jackson and Mike Fiers.

None of that bullshit has stopped them for 2 month going...

Game to follow tonight: Kershaw vs Fiers.
Had no idea that Fiers had more wins this year than Kershaw....

Fiers has looked pretty good so far (through 4 innings). Working the bottom of the zone and the corners well.

Perfect through 4 w/ 8 K's; gave up HR to Grandal to lead off 5th - 1st Dodger HR in 40 innings (since Pederson's off Verlander).  Fiers left after 5.1 after allowing 4 hits & 1 run.
2-1 A's bottom of 6th. Now 2-2, top of 8th.

Fiers got a no-decision as the A's scratched a run across in the bottom of the 8th and got the final three outs.
