I'm starting to worry about Tucker. Maybe AJ needs to bat him second or third, like he did to get Bregman going in his rookie season. Or maybe I fear, he is just another AAAA player like Reed, White and Davis. He needs to get it going.

Davis at 3rd is a liability. That's not hyperbole.

I’ve been asking myself why Yuli is at first and Davis is at third and have concluded several times that AJ clearly knows best, but can the reverse be any worse?

We're gonna waste that leadoff double,  aren't we?

Is that rhetorical?

Todd Kalas - And Stassi starts off the 6th with a double. Let's see if this gets the Astros going!

Ron Howard - It doesn't.

This chumpster is through six innings on something like 72 pitches. That's roughly three innings' worth of pitches for Astros pitchers recently.

Pressly making his Astros debut.

Somebody who isn't completely sickened by our offense should come up with a nickname for him.

He gives up a HR (actually 0.9) per 9 innings.

So of course his first batter faced . . .
And it's freaking stink.

Exactly. Last season's offense was icing. His value is his ability to play damn near everywhere on the diamond.

Serious question. How in the fucking world can we hit into this many DP’s? Are we running less than last year? I know we don’t have a team full of base stealers but perhaps we need to hit and run more to stay out of some of these.

A lot of baserunners just adds to more chances.  We were 6th in the majors last year in double plays.

Yes, it means he better put a bat on a ball, and at the rate we look at gut fastballs, that would be a good thing.

I would say the top of the ninth REALLY sucks now, but they would have had their closer out there in the 3-1 game

Doubtful.

I don't think hitting in to double plays is a problem. Teams that get on a base a lot hit in to double plays a lot.

This team isn't built to run. It's built to extend innings. It's just missing two of the best pieces that keep it rolling.

There is a reason for that. It is a gamble play. Please, chill. You make coffee nervous.
So my suggesting a hit and run every once in a while is gross overreaction and I need to chill???? The way this team is playing right now they need to take a few gambles to shake things up. What they’re doing now ain’t working, but we can agree to disagree.

What they are doing got them a WS championship last year.  They are missing 3 key players.  Just got to get through it.

I agree and you are correct. The two pieces we are missing hurt, but some times you need to take a chance to change the momentum and light a fire. That’s all I’m saying.

I can’t understand it for you. The hit and run is used sparingly, only with certain hitters and only with favorable counts, because it takes the bat out of the hitter’s hands. You do not call a hit and run because you are afraid of a dp.

Who are the good hit and run guys on this team, anyway?  Bregman?  Gurriel? When he's going good, he makes a lot of contact.  Even Altuve, as much as I love him, swings and misses a lot.  He doesn't strike out a LOT, but he swings and misses at balls you would think he would make contact with sometimes.

You explained it well,  and hit on something that's part of the larger problem: 1) getting favorable counts and 2) doing something productive when it happens.

Last night Marwin finally got into a FB count,  saw 2 in a row in the zone,  and flew out.

Tonight,  Bregman's walk was the only extended AB against their starter I could recall.

And Bregman, the way he's been hitting, I'd rather have driving the ball than shooting thru the infield.

Probably Gurriel and Kemp because he handles the bat well. Yes, you have to pick the right spot. Yes, it could get a runner thrown out. Yes, you could line into a double play. But you could also get a hit and have a runner go first to third and ignite the crowd and start a rally. Hell, when things are going bad I would like to try something. But evidently it was a stupid suggestion that I made. I apologize to the group. We have other things with our team to worry about. Forgive me please....

Altuve eligible to return Aug 5.

AJ said they would put a timetable together tmw for Correa if he looks good.

I'll feel better about Altuve after they tell us the actual diagnosis.

What I took from post game is that Altuve basically feels "ok" but they are just being cautious with him.

I don’t like the sound of it either but didn’t Altuve himself say earlier today he was ok they were just being cautious? If they have made the decision not to play him for a few days then it would kind of make sense to move him to the DL so you could call someone up rather than being a man short on the bench. Hopefully that’s all it is.

He's eligible to return August 5, which would be the Sunday game at the Dodgers.

If that is the date of his return he'd miss another 6 games starting with tmw's series/ season finale against Arlington.

The team sent out the same vibe early on with Correa’s injury. Let’s hope this situation plays out differently
