Cleveland got him.

Pads get C Francisco Mejia from CLE. Equivalent Astros prospect would’ve been Tucker. CLE does also get a good rookie RP in the deal in Cimber.

So, I haven't followed Cleveland, but is Miller out?  Why give up a "tucker" level prospect for a closer?

Cleveland’s bullpen has actually been as bad as our fans pretend ours is.

If Hand, who is under club control for three more seasons and has been pitching lights out for a while, “only” only commands a single top 20 prospect, what should that imply is comparable trade package for Britton? He’s a rental who hasn’t pitched that much this season and hasn’t been elite since 2016?

Portside relievers come at a premium, but I’d be surprised to see any top tier prospects required to pry him away.

Miller has been injured. Mejia’s defense as a catcher is seen as shaky. And of course I’m just equating him to Tucker in terms of their consensus rankings. Plenty of scouts might strongly prefer one or the other.

Also, Hand’s salary is reasonable and he’s under control through 2021.

The price for Britton should be MUCH cheaper. He’s a rental coming off an injury. If he is the one Houston wants though I would move quickly. As supply drys up the price could go up. If the Orioles are still interested in Fisher one for one may do it. If they want an arm too I personally would have no problem putting Giles in the deal if the O’s want a closer type back. Valdez could also be a possibility.

I wonder how much influence Strom has in trades like that?  If he thinks there is something to fix to make the great, I think they would feel better pulling the trigger.

Cleveland’s #1 prospect. We would not have traded ours.

Valdez?
Yes. Framber Valdez is the #15 ranked player in our system. He’s a southpaw which may intrigue the O’s since they would be trading a lefty in Britton to us. Valdez has both started and relieved in the minors this year so he’s flexible for the O’s.

He also shows currently as "suspended" on the Hooks' roster and some in the bus rider section are concerned about the implications.

Well scratch him off the list! As long as we don’t trade C Perez I’m good with anyone out side the top 5 in our system.

OK. I know who Framber Valdez is. Just didn't know if you were talking about him, or an Orioles player or what given that it was kinda from left field.

As far as secondary-type players to round out a deal, there's also guys like AJ Reed, White, maybe JD Davis. Heck, maybe even Marisnick depending on how the Astros feel about Myles Straw.

If you go by the Padres' return, I wouldn't give more than Reed, White, or Davis for 2 months and a possible post-season for a recently returned from catastrophic injury Britton.

Also the fact that the O's got an outfielder back as the big piece for Machado might signal they will be looking for a pitching return for Britton.

A's have apparently reached a deal  with the Mets for Familia in exchange for two prospects.

The Mets weren’t getting much for him because he’s a rental, but what the A’s gave up was almost nothing. Toffey was ranked 17th in their system and Wahl wasn’t in top 30.

Familia is enough of a headache that the Mets are probably just happy to see him gone.

The A's are paying the rest of Familia's salary ($3mm) and kicked in another $1mm in int'l bonus pool money to boot. Mets might've had marginally better prospect offers on the table, though I'm not sure what $4mm really buys you these days prospect-wise.

Tweet from Crasnick:
The #Astros and #Cubs are trying to match up prospects with the #Orioles on a Zach Britton deal. Others involved too. Heard the O’s would like to wrap it up by early in the week. With Familia, Hand and Herrera having moved, it’s ramped up the pace of talks
