Has anyone calculated how much money Singleton lost because of his numerous suspensions.  I'm curious to know the total amount the Astros actually paid him.

Best I could tell he spent about 150 games on the suspended list.  He's been, or will be, paid $10MM of the five seasons of his ML contract with the Astros at roughly $2MM/season.  So that's approximately $1.85MM in forfeited salary.  Back of the envelope...the Astros have paid him roughly $8.15MM plus his minor league salaries for 2012 and 2013.  He's left $20.5MM on the table for 2019-2021.  Hope he enjoyed all that weed.

I wonder if the team has to pay the buyouts (of $500K, $250K and $250K) in '19-'21.

Coincidence that he had 420 at-bats w the Astros? I think not.

I hope he can get his life together. Nobody wants to flame out like that and he might even be a pretty nice guy. Hopefully that money will last till he gets set up on a new career path. The Astros will be fine.

Part of the Astros' rebuilding was giving some of those prospects extended looks.  Jose Altuve probably doesn't get the look he gets, at least not as soon, without the team being pretty bad.  Same can be said for Keuchel, and remember the debate about Marwin vs. Villar?  But one of the side effects of being really, really good at the big league level is you don't have a lot of room and some developing players get squeezed out.  Tyler White, as an example, is a steady 25-man roster guy in a lot, if not most, organizations.  But there's just no place for him in Houston.

It's not that the Astros don't give them time, it is that they have a loaded line up so it is hard to give them time.  Something most other orgs don't have to deal with.  I will take that problem any day.

Yeah, Fisher has been afforded plenty of time.  Like most orgs, if management places a high value on a player, they'll give him ample opportunity.
