WS rings
« on: February 21, 2018, 07:07:38 am »
A recent article quoted Crane as saying he has ordered 900 rings and will present one to every person who was a part of the championship team, all the way down to the ballpark ushers. Class.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

I think I'm going to get one.

Including front office and gameday stadium staff, 900 actually seems kind of low.

Reid Ryan said on an Astroline earlier this offseason that the team is also going to conduct a season-long raffle, with one lucky winner getting their own WS ring (complete with their own name engraved).

That is a great idea.

It is. I hope the raffle funding goes to charity.

It goes to the nonprofit Keep the Altuve Fund.  I'd guess the Aramark guy that pours my beer doesn't get one.

Never mind raffles are illegal in Texas regardless of beneficiary or entity holding it. There is a statute legalizing them if, and only if, the entity complies with strict requirements.

They do a raffle at every home game, so they've probably looked into it...

Oh hey, every school in Texas a a gazillion every year. I did not say there are not a lot of raffles. I simply said they are illegal. Prosecutors look the other way.

There's a constitutional amendment authorizing pools by professional sports organizations for charitable purposes.  It may pick up raffles as well.

I thought we amended the constitution recently to change that.

I'm sure Heyman will find a way to twist this into a terrible thing the organization is doing.

Article III, section 47(d-1).  It only applies to raffles by professional sports teams for charitable foundations.

I vaguely remember when that passed.

Watch for the raffle on opening day.
