Astros and White House
« on: February 07, 2018, 08:31:27 am »
Are any Astros players planning on going to the White House?  I believe they were invited and Beltran has passed, but I really haven't heard much more than that.

Beltran is not. Several reportedly said they would go only if Beltran went.

I can't imagine any of the Puerto Rican players are particularly inclined to go.

Beltran went to great lengths to say Trump is not the reason, then talked about his disappointment at the US response.

Bregman said he would follow Beltran and Correa's lead.

Maybe they should go and take a knee.  That would be a really bad idea, wouldn't it?

Hey, I think those that want to go should.  Not everyone gets that opportunity.  I do not necessarily support anyone in DC right now but that is one of the things that you get recognized for winning a championship.  I understand why they don't, but the fans, me at least, want them to get every accolade they deserve.  They are world champions dammit!!!

The necessity of carving out stage time for a bunch of pols who probably couldn't name four Astros was, by far, the worst part of the Victory Parade.

Mayor Turner was behind home plate for all of the home games.  Sheila Jackson Lee just heard there were cameras at City Hall and materialized.

The city did organize the parade.  I guess if you organize it you get to do what you want.

According to Julia, those that are going are going March 12th.

The reason it's in March is because the Astros don't travel to the DMV area until the play the Orioles in September and the 12th is an off day in Spring Training which will allow them to fly up and back in the same day.
