I didn't think bringing Beltran on board was a good idea. In the first half of the season, I thought that Hinch gave him too many at bats and hit him too high in the order favoring him over better hitters. Looking back on the entire year, it is undeniable that he was the clubhouse éminence grise, a wise, stable presence; a resource of advice and perspective for players and manager. I am guessing that he was particularly valuable getting the team through the multiple hurricane difficulties. Could they have similarly achieved without him? Maybe - but that's not the point. They won and he was part of it.
