Astros Wins

There's lots of baseball metrics out there.  Since wins are the most important metric, I thought I'd take a look at the magical run the Astros went on in September and October, once the team was at (largely) full strength again.

The Astros, and their 101 wins this season, won at a .623 clip this year.  Second only to the 102 win (.630 winning percentage) 1998 team.  They were an incredible +.700 for the first two months leading up to their disastrous, injury-plagued summer.  Once the team recovered, they resumed their +.700 pace in September, logging a .724 winning percentage for the month against mediocre opponents that were a combined 541-593 (.477) for the year.

Then it gets interesting.  Their opponents for the playoffs won and won often on the year, leading to a combined 288-198 record for a .592 winning percentage.  I find it fascinating that this team played to a .611 winning percentage against the cream of the crop, the best of the best in the playoffs.    That's the same as a 99 win season.  Against the best baseball has to offer for the entire month of October.  Just an incredible, magical run.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.
