Gameday Special
« on: October 13, 2017, 08:04:05 am »
Across from my office, about 7 blocks from MMPUS, the bar at Phoenicia Grocery is running a local brew and Frito Pie  game day special for $10.  I never knew Frito Pie was Mediterranean.

I went to El Real yesterday.  I may go over to Phoenicia around 5-ish.

Making a homemade Frito pie as we speak.  I'll have more later.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Had a homemade Frito pie for lunch as well.... hoping I don't regret it after about 14 beers.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I got to watch Game 1 with some friends in the Camel Sports Bar in Shanghai this morning at 8 am. We had some loaded fries (on the menu as poutine, but really just an odd mix of stuff on top of fries). It wasn't Frito pie, but it seemed to do the trick.

+1.

Jalapeño covered Frito pie + some beer + Metamucil at the end of the evening = a very sorry toilet this morning.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

Will there be an Astros game tomorrow? No idea. But I do know what I am having for dinner. Love games like this...everything on the line with a mostly amazing team lead by a veteran ace. Go Astros. Best wishes to all tonight.

on the off chance there are any other lurkers on this board based in Charlotte, i just wanted to share the info that the recently opened Tipsy Burro on 7th sells Frito Pie.   Say hi to the big hairy guy at the bar wearing business casual and Astros socks.  Lets go boys.
Yay.

Wife made a crock pot meal yesterday,  turns out it was a mexican chili.   When I realized what we were having I ran to the pantry and grabbed some fritos. Whole family,  including grandpa,  enjoyed some Frito Pie.

There's a "Tex-Mex" restaurant in NY that hosts Texans/Astros watch parties.  I was hesitant to go until I checked the menu and saw FOUR quesos.
If anybody's in town I'd love to meet up.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

I’m in Durham, although my sister’s in Charlotte. She’s not a baseball fan, however.

One beer down. Frito chili pie  and another beer as soon as I get back from the river bank where I will burn wood--which I'm fixin' to do. I'm not going to wear ladies panties but I have a Marwin T-Shirt over a Houston Strong T-Shirt.

you certainly don't want to risk ruining your good panties after all that beer and Frito pie. Those things aren't cheap.

No Frito pie, but I did my part.   Booked a work trip that would line up with the Astros home WS games, meaning I wouldn't be able to attend.    Same thing happened in 2005....

I made the seven-pepper chili from Homesick Texan and ate it both nights. Tomorrow I believe I will make frito pie out of it. It’s excellent, by the way—especially when fed to confused non-Texans marveling at beanlessness.

Is it any good?  I had it pegged as another rebranding of the same old stuff from Mexican Budweiser Modelo.

After the Avalon Diner Frito Pie failed for game 1 (overuse?), and the Antoine's Regular Po' Boy was a success yesterday, I'm hitting different classic Houston fast food for the duration of the series.  Today was Villa Arcos tacos.  Saturday is Captain Benny's and Sunday Frenchy's fried chicken.  Tomorrow is a problem, but somehow I'll cram in a Prince's burger.

When you see Limey tell him we miss him.

Heavy weekend.  Very much needed detoxing.

PS  It's quite easy to win a singles match at golf when your opponent is found passed out, fully clothed, on the floor outside his hotel room at 3am.
