Listening to Ford and Sparks on Sirius XM and 'watching' on At Bat has been great...   Couldn't stand any more of FS1.

Nothing like a little insurance to get you through the rough times.

Now, the Astros have the opportunity to be the only team to ever win a pennant in both leagues.

So very gruntled right now!

Proof that you never know how trades will work out.  The Red Sox dealt a ton of talent for Sale to win playoff games.  They had him all year.  He lost 2 of their 3 losses.  Luhnow gets vilified for not dealing then gets Verlander at the last second and he wins 2 of the 3 playoff games.  Those same ones that Sale lost.

Also, in the midst of all of this, Bregman's performance should be noted. His jack changed the complexion of the game and gave the bats some life again. And he made a tough play look easy for a big out 1 in the 9th after the circus HR.

Not for nothing, but I liked the move to Verlander right away. Keuchel on full rest at home in Game 5 (just learned that Bregman’s nick is “Stinky B”) sounded ideal, and meanwhile Verlander is the best pitcher available. You win with your horses!

Hernandez looks like someone just murdered his dog.

Only Frank Thomas was smiling after the clubhouse scene.

Which is weird because Hernandez actually kind of likes the Astros. I do think however that he is socially impressionable enough to reflect the dominant vibe.

Morton gutted out a soggy start and kept his team in the game.  If it were my call he'd get the ball in the game 3 of the ALCS.

Also, in the midst of all of this, Bregman's performance should be noted. His jack changed the complexion of the game and gave the bats some life again. And he made a tough play look easy for a big out 1 in the 9th after the circus HR.

What a game.  One of my friends pointed out to me that there were only 2 at bats the entire game where the score wasn't within a run. Literally any pitch could change the whole game.

What a great fucking win. Honestly that win felt like "The Astros" this season. Plenty of LoBsters but those two out two strike rallies... just enough vaunting when it counts. I'm so happy we have at the least four games left this season!

incredible restraint by HPU. Also incredible lack of poise from Pedroia. 2nd inning and you melt down?  Reminded me of the Clemens meltdown on the mound in the playoffs in the late 80s.

Last night at dinner with a half-dozen people I had to try to explain an inside-the-park home run to Kris.  I thought the concept was obvious.  Apparently it's not.

I went back and rewatched that inside the park home run, and the crowd and Chris Berman on ESPN radio reacted with way too much excitement.   When down by 2 runs in the 9th, a walk and a solo home run are not that different from a win expectancy standpoint.  Both bring the tying run to the plate.    That's why teams let that unimportant runner take bases on defensive indifference.    And depending on whether a closer prefers pitching from the windup, a solo home run is sometimes worse than having distracting traffic on the bases.

The fans were acting like they just won the World Series.    And Chris Berman was completely in the tank for the Red Sox.  No surprise there.

"He is light-years ahead of a regular 23-year-old," Houston catcher Brian McCann said. "He shows up every day, and you know what you're getting out of Alex Bregman. He loves the game of baseball probably more than anybody I've ever been around. He owns the moment."

On if the things I love about Bregman is he seems to be a student of the game. Numerous times I've heard him say about trying to get the attention of Beltran or how he pesters Marwin any chance he gets to talk fielding, positioning etc.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

That is great. Thanks for sharing.

Sparks SOUNDS hammered, but this is immediately after the game. So, either he is a major lightweight, his excited voice sounds like everyone else's hammered voice, or he was boozing it up during the game.

I think he's just insanely excited.

On if the things I love about Bregman is he seems to be a student of the game. Numerous times I've heard him say about trying to get the attention of Beltran or how he pesters Marwin any chance he gets to talk fielding, positioning etc.

Yep.  He's quickly becoming one of my favorite Astros.

I'm watching the game again right now, and what someone else said is absolutely true:  You would have no problem assuming this was a NESN broadcast.

Here's Sparks on the radio postgame:  https://sports790.iheart.com/featured/what-s-on-matt-s-mind/content/2017-10-09-steve-sparks-alds-clincher-clubhouse/

That was excellent, thanks for sharing the link. Sparks was a riot. I thought I was back in college…

Tried link but it goes nowhere.  Oh well.

Did you get to the page at least with the picture of the clubhouse madness?

Underneath the picture is a box that says Steve Sparks Clubhouse 10-9-17

At the bottom of that box is a play icon labeled "Sportstalk790 Intervi..." .
That play icon is what you have to press to hear it.

I did all that. Did not work, but I listened to it live. Somehow my car radio picked up 790 AM.

Huh... all I can offer is it worked for me.   I'm running Chrome on an iMac if that has anything to do with it.

It took me a while to find it, but I finally was able to hear it all.  It's worth the effort of listening to it.

I had this, but then refreshed and the other loaded properly.

The interview with Hinch was good. More of the same- I don't think there was anything new that he discussed.

I ended up downloading the IHeart app on my phone to be able to listen to it.  Popped right on when I did that.

Hmmm...I have the iHeart app, and it kept taking me to the live broadcast.  I'd really like to hear it, so I'll keep trying.

Windows 10 in Chrome loads it just fine for me still. Clicked and the play button was there.

May just be a mobile issue.
