Again, not much interest in this one.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Back in the states, or still overseas?

Nice battle between Trout and Verlander there, with Verlander eventually coming out on top.

Damn it's fun to watch Verlander pitch.

Run into any giant rats?

You know, I've heard about the giant rats here, but I've never seen one.  Mostly just monkeys.  And cobras.

If you're a pitcher, it must be nice to get out the #3 hitter by bounces three sliders in front of the plate.

Weirdly, that was the most hittable pitch of the at bat.

B1:

Springer files out F8
Reddick doubles off the LF wall
Altuve...flails through a pitch in the dirt, falling to his knees...does the exact same thing again to make it 0-2...manages to lay off one that bounces on the grass in front of the plate...and flails through a pitch in the dirt, falling to his knees to punch out.
Marwin...2-0...takes a pitch two feet off the plate for strike one...check swing fouls a pitch near his face to even the count...strikes out swinging at a pitch in the dirt

So Richards gives up a double, then gets two strikeouts without throwing a pitch within 2 feet of the plate.

No score

Simmons flies out F8

Is it impossible for a hitting coach to talk to Altuve? I do not care about his BA. His approach with runners on hurts this team.

He really has no apparent approach. Just hacking.  I'm hoping he doesn't win the MVP for fear of your head exploding.

Everyone in the stadium knew what pitches were coming that at bat.  How is it he does not?  Or does he not care?  I think part of it his believes his own press that he's a good bad ball hitter and can hit any pitch in any location.  Part of it might be pressing knowing he's expected to produce.  But I agree, he's a liability at times.

I hadn't slept much for two days, so I couldn't stay up for the entire game last night. To say I was unimpressed to see we scored one run after the starting pitcher was pulled in the first would be a drastic understatement. This team is going to piss me off if they continue to give JV the Clemens runs scored treatment.

Probably not Rosh Hashana.  I can't think of any good reason.

T6:

For some reason, Fisher is in for Reddick

Maldonado lines one up the middle, almost takes Verlander's head off, but Altuve is there on the slight shift...4-3
Calhoun grounds out 5-3 on the shift
Trout flies out F9

Still no score

With the Tigers in the race for the pennant, it must have driven a certain class of Detroit fans nuts when Hank Greenberg sat out games in late September for Rosh Hashana.  It would have been worse than watching Altuve flail at the plate.

Monteleone isn't available.  Any other choices for New Orleans?

The first time I ever went to New Orleans I went with my dad who was going there on business. I was 15, 16, somewhere in there. It was the first time I had ever left Texas by car. We stayed in the Marriott on Canal. We ate raw oysters and frog legs at a place in the Quarter on I want to say Chartres. Wherever it was, it's not there anymore. I found a small pearl in one of my oysters, round and smooth like an alabaster BB. No one ever believes that this really happened.

Anyway, I folded it up in a napkin and gave it to a girl. This same girl, I just realized, her own teenage son recently made national news after a fashion by tweeting a video of his indignantly burning a MAGA hat. Funny old thing, this orb, this alabaster BB.

T7:

Upton draws a leadoff walk
Pujols grounds into 5-4-3 double play...Upton really took out Altuve with a VERY late slide way past the bag, but Altuve can come off the bag and still get the slow Pujols
Phillips flies out F9

No score at the stretch

Petit in for the Halos...

Altuve lines a single to LF
Marwin...takes strike one two feet off the plate...takes strike two at his ankles...1-2...takes strike three 3 feet off the plate...argues...Hinch out to get between him and ump...Hinch gets the thumb...
Altuve steals 2B
Bregman walks
Gurriel homers to LCF...Altuve scores, Bregman scores

And that's all for Petit, Middleton in

McCann strikes out looking
Gattis...3-0...3-1...pops out F4

But the Astros grab a 3-0 Lead

Maybin, who obviously went into Kemp's spot, strikes out looking

Normally, down three runs, you don't run like that.  But against the Astros, it's pretty much automatic

Nice play by Altuve, but if he catches it, he may have actually had a triple play.

Grandstander probably failed to catch it on purpose.

T9:

Giles in to try to close it out...

Revere, pinch hitting for Maldonado...singles to LF on a 2-strike pitch
Revere steals 2B
Calhoun...full count...walks
Trout...0-2...takes strike three for ball one...hits a soft liner up the middle, Altuve lets it drop, flips to Bregman at 2B to force Calhoun, and they have Revere in a pickle...score it 4-6-5-6 double play...Scioscia challenging whether or not Bregman touched 2B, but replays show he clearly did...confirmed
Trout takes 2B on fielder's indifference
Upton...takes strike three right down the middle for ball three to fill the count..pops out F3 in foul territory

Astros win!!!

3-0 is the final.

That was up there with the worst umpiring I've ever seen.  They are inching themselves closer and closer to an electronic strike zone with such horrible job performance.

At Bat also screwed up here.  Not worry, they have about 12 hours to straighten it all out.

Mariner's walk it off in the bottom of the 9th on a Nelson Cruz home run. Astros back to 1 game back in the loss column.

Indians have 8 games left, Astros 9.   I believe they have the tie breaker, meaning the Astros are really 2.5 games out.

Indians remaining schedule.  2 with Seattle, 3 with the Twins, 3 with the White Sox.   If they go 4-4, the Astros would need to go 7-2 to pass them.

Like Jim said, just win, baby.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.
