Indians...
« on: September 11, 2017, 09:47:16 pm »
Ran their streak to 19 games tonight.  The all time major league record is 21.

During this streak, they've thrown 6 shut outs, and another 8 games where they've given up 2 runs or less.  That's getting it done on the bump.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

It's really been something to see. The Tribe has hit more home runs than total runs allowed. And they're doing this without Michael Brantley, Jason Kipnis and Andrew Miller. Pretty damn impressive.

Are those three guys expected back by post-season?

I'm more than impressed. It's mind blowing. I don't think they are capable of losing anymore. They will probably close out the campaign without another blemish. Their gonna kill the Dodgers in the World Series.

For those who get tricked by the damn media into thinking the 1916 New York Giants had a streak of 26 games, know now that their streak was really a 12 game and a 14 game streak separated by a tie.  The Giants threw 10 shutouts in their 26-0-1 streak, and another 13 games where they gave up 2 runs or less.

Also of note ... the 1916 Giants' first loss after their 26-0-1 streak eliminated them from pennant contention.

Of course #Indians are already up 5-0. Not only do they never lose. They're never behind! Trailed at the end of only 4 innings in the streak

Jayson Stark‏ @jaysonst
In other words, they've trailed for 4 innings in 3 weeks! Feels like that should be impossible

Is that good?

The Indians really are the superteam that the Dodgers thought they were...

And now Kluber is going for the CGSO.

The Indians won their 21st straight game on Wednesday to set an American League winning-streak record and join only two other teams in the past 101 years to win that many consecutive games.

That's just fake news, ESPN.    1 other team won 21 "consecutive" games.

And I guess you think Hank Aaron is still the home run king too.  It doesn't matter what any of us think.  If the official rule book says the record is 26, it is 26.

There's 2 different records in the rule book.  One for Longest Winning Streak (was 21, now 22), and one for Longest Undefeated Streak (26-0-1).

Ran their streak to 19 games tonight.  The all time major league record is 21.

Not according to MLB.

Not according to MLB.

It's obviously a semantic difference that MLB.com writer Austin Laymance just didn't want to address.   Even though I understand what people like Austin mean, I was just supporting HudsonHawk's statement.

The game was not recorded as a tie, it was replayed from the beginning. Individual stats of the done-over game are part of the record, but the game is not. The game doesn't exist in the standings. There was no tie. One can talk technicalities but the official record is the official record.

The official rule book never mentions consecutive wins streaks by any team.
